About Me Do-It-Yourself
Comments about Husqvarna P-ZT 48:
I purchased this mower a little over 3 years ago and it's been in the shop more than I've used it. Besides the various breakdowns, the cut is horrible. If the grass is more than medium length, you have to go over it multiple times. If the ground is semi-wet, the rear tires dig up the ground on any sharp turn. The under carriage collects and holds dirt and grass, especially if damp, which forces you to stop and clean it every few minutes to avoid engine strain or stall out. I don't know if my unit should fall under the lemon law, because I've heard other owners express satisfaction with theirs.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Tremendous value and build quality.
As a dealer of this product..you will automatically assume that I am partial my product line..and that I am. As I read the reviews..it is certain that we can all agree these units are built like a tank. The Kawasaki powerplant far exceeds any competitors engine and truly rates their horsepower. Now I would like to address some of your dissapointments. Fab decks do not cut like stamped decks...they do not flow air like stamped decks. Air flow is increased by adding reinforcing wings that wrap the blade tips at certain points. If you mow wet...or early...grass flow is reduced...grass collects on these wings...reducing grass flow...reducing air flow. When we reduce air flow...we reduce the lift of the grass. When we reduce lift we get poor quality of cut. Now add this to rough terrain and a bouncing deck at the speed that these unit run...and yes...you've got it....poor cut quality. Dont blame the machine for what only the operator can control. Now lets talk price...well..no need...there is no other unit that will compare to these units at the list price they command.

Not so impressed
I bought this mower for business use. The mower seemed to be well built, but I have had several disapointing things happen so far.The bolts that hold the left rear hydraulic motor sheared the bolts off and caused the belt to fall off. This was nice, as I was half way thru a clients yard. Luckily I had a back up mower to finish the job. The mower also seems to leave patches of grass. This takes more of my time to recut. I havent tried a different brand of blades. The biggest issue I have is with the turning. It seems that no matter how i approach a turn, the rear wheels will tear a divot in the yard. It doesnt happen everytime, but enough to make my customers upset. I dont have this issue with my dixie or cub. So far I have 60 hrs on the machine and I plan to buy a different mower for the next season. The dealer however has been a real pleasure to work with. They have been very helpful and are quick to make repairs as needed. Its the only reason Ive considered staying with the machine. As far as the motor, the kawaski has been a champ. It's been quiet and reliable so far. Over all , I like the machine, but its costing me money from the recuts and divots. To the average home owner i would recommend it. I would not recommend it for commercial use

Not so great
Let me start by saying I am not a professional lawn person, but I purchased a Cub Cadet Zforce 60 a few years ago to cut about 2.5 acres of grass. I had to replace it with this Husqvarna mower about 6 months ago. So my review of the Husqvarna is based on my comparison to the Cub Cadet. Overall the Husqvarna is built way better than the C/C, however the C/C had a few advantages. One of those was the front caster wheels where on a center pivot type axle which allowed them to travel up and down on uneven terrain. The Husqvarna does not have this feature and causes one of the front caster wheels to come completely off the ground while cutting. This was a little unnerving at first but I have since gotten used to it. Another item the C/C I feel had an advantage over was the arms used to steer and move forward and backward, they would always return to the neutral position if you let go of them and bring the machine to a stop. The Husqvarna does not do this and if you let the arms go the machine keep on going. This is something else I have had to get used to and I still do not like it.On the positive side, the Husqvarna is built like a tank, and the welded steel deck 48 inch deck is much beefier than the stamped steel deck of the C/C (which is why I no longer own the C/C, destroyed the deck on a piece of wood and could not get a replacement) The traction of the Husqvarna compared to the C/C is far superior, I used to slip and slide and now I just go when I want to go and turn where I want to turn. The Kawasaki engine is much quieter than the Kohler engine of the C/C which makes mowing a little more pleasant. It also starts right up almost as soon as you turn the key.My biggest complaint about the Husqvarna is the cut. If my grass is over 4" tall the mower does not cut evenly of misses patches all together. My C/C never did this even with the dullest of blades. With the Husqvarna I will have to sometimes go over where I have cut multiple times before it will be cut even. This really irritates me and is a waste of my time and money (speaking strictly in the amount of fuel I have to use to get the job done). This is the one and only reason I would not recommend this mower to anyone. Sorry Husqvarna but until you figure out how to make a mower mow the grass I can't recommend it. I hope this helps someone and keeps them from making a huge $ mistake like I did.

I purchased this PZT48 Oct 2011. Thought after that amount of time I could offer some insight on how well it is built and how it cuts. 1st - I use it to cut 2 acres of pasture (rough) and about 1.5 acres of lawn. The lawn is cut weekly and usually the pasture is as well. Sometimes I have to cut the pawn twice a week. The amount of time it takes to cut everything is about 1.75 hours. It used to take one hour and 20 minutes just to cut the pasture. I would like to say it is built like a tank. No problems with how well it is made. Easy to start and very fast. The Kaw' engine is the way to go, don't get the B&S or Kohler. Everything works flawless. Now for the cut....I am somewhat disappointed in the cut. It seems to leave the grass a little ragged and does not get all the grass cut even. I do not know if it's because I am running too fast or this is how it cuts. I tried slowing down to see if that makes a difference, but it did not seem to. I use the gator blades which I am very happy with. But still think the cut could look better. It is starting to leave a slight gap when making a turn and is not getting the grass clean. I recently sharpened the blades, but they probably need to be replaced. The only problem I've ever had was the bolt that holds the rear-end together had a substitute "5" bolt instead of using the hardened "8". This broke and had to be replaced, but the cost was less than $5.00 so I cannot argue with that. Overall, I am very pleased with the mower and would recommend it. When I compare it to the Simplicity Legacy I have, the cut does not compare. The Simplicity is MUCH better!
