Replaced my 16 yr old JD rear engine mower. Night and day the Husky has tons of power and did a great job of mowing a longer lawn (while waiting delivery). A few things before use, placed on a battery tender overnight to start with a full charge. Reduced the tire pressure from 20 psi to the recommended 10 psi. Corrected the routing of the wiring harness to the head lights it was under the oil drain and seemed short. There were instructions with the manual about a replacement harness but none included. The wiring harness was also pinched under the r/r edge of the hood. Did not like the routing of the wiring going vertical from there also. The steering wheel has a sharp edge around the outer circumference probably from the plastic mold and cuts into your hand. I will probably have to sand it down.Engine seems loud compared from my older 13.5 B&S but runs fine. I like having an oil filter and will switch to synthetic oil when due for a change. This is a basic model no hour meter, gas gauge, limited slip, cruise control or electric pto etc. For mowing a 1/2 acre mostly flat with slopes in rear it ran great. Iam very happy with my purchase. I shopped the Green and Yellow brands both Big Box and Dealer Models and felt this tractor with the 3 year warranty saved me from spending $6-700 more for features I didn't need. My prior mower was a manual and I am glad to have the proven CVT versus a Hydro. I yhink the big boys are living off their past reputation for qulity. They are certainly not made the same as my 16 yr retiree. Oh year and a great turning raduis around our many trees.

The transmission seems to get stuck in gear (either forward or reverse) and will not release. In an emergency turning off the engine is the only recourse. Also should you be on bumpy terrain, or some condition where you want to brace yourself, you cannot because your foot is on the speed pedal. I have personally hit bumps and slid forward in the seat, my foot push forward on to the speed pedal, accelerating the tractor, further knocking me off balance and almost losing control.

Comments about YTA18542:
Putting the accelerator under the foot is a preposterous design flaw on a lawn mower, this is not a car! When manuvering around bushes on a hill, I need all the foot balance I can get, NOT be ramming the throttle to wide open, and rolling the mower over on top of me!!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about HUSQVARNA YTA18542:
After 18 years I was spending more time repairing my old MTD mower than riding it, so, after considerable consideration, I bought a 42" Husqvarna. The ride is good, the turning radius is small, the one cylinder engine starts easily and has plenty of torque and it is FAST. With a top speed of 6.9 MPH I can cut my grass more quickly than I could with my previous 46" mower. The icing on the cake is that it uses very little fuel. And, it's Orange.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
i would buy this product again
i use this mower for mowing 1 acre some of it uneven yard cuts great i like the speed of this mower ,the seat slats forward and takes getting use to,this is the first time i have ever used foot controls but i had no problemsgetting use to it, as far as use it in reverse to cut you have to remember to turn the key for this function

About Me Professional
Mowed one and half acre and little over a half acre lawn. So far the mower has worked as expected. Compared to my old mower this is a dream machine. The cost played a role in purchasing this model, it was discounted by $100.00 plus got 10% discount. Another influence was my son who suggested I purchase based on product name. I loved the fact the time to mow was cut in half. When finish mowing the lawn looked like a professional had cut it.

I have only owned this mower for a year and have had several problems with the drive pedals. It will sometimes stick in forward or reverse. I almost broke my neck today when mowing under a swing set. Stuck in forward and it drove me under a cross brace. Hurt my neck as I had to try and to stop this mower. Cross brace of the swing set hit me in the chest, neck and face as I was trying to get low enough to miss the cross brace. The mower wouldn't stop. Could be dangerous in certain mowing situations.

Great riding mower
from Hillsville, Virginia
I have owned every type of riding mower, except 2 other brands. At 75 yrs old, I am still mowing others' yards plus 3 acres of my own yard.Except for a slower backup speed, I will not buy any other riding mower. Use the heavy duty blades that comes standard with it, and don't use the flimsy hi-lift mulching blades,,,,they bend very easily. My mower couldn't now any smother, not leaving any sighns in the grass except wheel marks. I love it, and at 18 1/2 horses, has plenty of power to now steep hills and 4 ft high brush.

It's an OK mower...
from Cincinnati, Ohio
In my mind the power of this mower is good. It does not "bog" down in high thick grass. I am not impressed with the drive system, in bumpy terrain it is hard to control because the pedal is too far forward. Plus I am having trouble keeping the seat locked in position especially on bumpy ground. The drive belt for the blades has already popped off once, I have less than 10 hours on it. Reverse is kind of touchy, seems a little out of adjustment/design flaw... You press on the pedal and it really does not engage when you think it would, it seems to drop into gear when it wants to sometimes. I did not necessarily buy this for the price, for another $1000 I could have bought a zero turn.

I love the ease in which this mower operates. Simple and to the point. The turn radius is much tighter than I would have imagined. Very smooth, fast, and comfortable. Great price. I would certainly recommend.
