Have owned several homeowner model saws in the past. They always served the purpose. But we purchased 80 acres mostly timbered last year and knew I would need a higher end saw.I checked out all the reviews online with comparable models and kept coming up with the Husqvarna.I even used a friend of mines Stihl saw and just wasnt satisfied. It was hard to start when it got hot and just didnt seem to "rev" up where I wanted it when needed. That made up my mind...I went out and bought the Husqvarna 440 18" bar...Took it the very next weekend to our property and can not express how pleased I am with my decision. It was a little touchy to get it started the first time. I will say make sure you prime it plenty to get fuel through the system. After that, it has started by the 2nd pull when cold or after use when its hot.The power is perfect. Makes short work of even larger size trees. It idles great with out even offering to stall out.I would recommend it to anyone looking for an above average homeowner/ heavy utility saw.The 18" bar is a necessity. Always use premium chains, oil and gas and you should never have an issue with this saw.Update:Have had my saw since beginning of April giving it a true workout clearing, cutting standing timber and tons of firewood and it remains as good as the day I bought it.I can only hope and have no reason to believe otherwise that it willl serve me for many years to come.

I bought this saw at Lowes while out of town as I had to do some quick tree work at a rental house I had. I am very experienced with a chainsaw, albeit not a professional user by any stretch of the imagination. Out of the box, the saw was difficult to start and when finally starting it (the starting decals devised to help are worthless), I was able to make short work of what I had to do. As long as I didn't put the saw down or held it at idle for any length of time (more than 5-10 seconds) it was fine, otherwise it would stop, forcing an unnecessary and difficult restart. I had to leave the next day and have used the saw one other time since being at home. Same complaints. I have pulled it out to do some work today and it took 30 minutes of pulling to get it to start. I thought that it may have flooded, but after letting it sit, it didn't make much difference. Once started it wouldn't stay running even after warming up. The chain would stop while trying to cut a 12" log (after making certain the chain was sharp). The saw runs very irregularly and seems like it is not firing regularly. Of course there is no way to adjust the carburetor.Overall, I am very dissatisfied with this saw. I'll need to take it in to have it looked at after only buying 6 weeks ago and having used it 3 times for a total saw time of about 45 minutes. I should have purchased a Stihl, but unfortunately Lowes was the only store open at the time I needed it. I've even owned a Poulan that has run better than this.

Comments about 440:
My brother and I bought this saw to help get firewood and cut up down trees. We've only had it for a few days so it's breaking in but it runs great, cuts well, and sounds amazing. Make sure to remove the white spacer between where the bar goes during shipping or else the lock won't engage. I'm excited to try this awesome saw some more.

Great for home and small ranch use
I purchased this chainsaw to take care of tree damage from Hurricane Harvey. My older chainsaws wouldn't start from not using them often, and you couldn't get one repaired, so I "splurged" on this model and could not be more pleased. It starts easily, cuts well, and is lightweight for all day cutting. After going through a lot of chains that had become dull, I went to Youtube and quickly learned how to keep a chain reasonably sharp with just a round file and patience.I liked the 440 enough that I bought a second one, and my next purchase will be to upgrade to a more powerful version to help cut down cedar trees at our small farm.

I bought this saw a week ago and has been used daily and has been really reliable in my lawn company to clear out trees after hurricane irma in miami.
Easy to use and maintain.
Recently bought a home in a wooded area and held off on buying a better saw until a large tree fell on my garage. This saw is extremely easy to start, cold or warm, and easy to operate. Those who struggle to start it for the first time or restart this saw clearly have not read the simple starting procedure which explains why and how this saw operates the way it does. Did you know you need to choke and then unchoke the saw before attempting to warm-start in order activate the high-idle setting, which makes it incredibly easy to start? My saw has started on the first pull every single time, when warm, when following the instructions. This saw also only took about 3-4 pulls to start for the very first time as well. Cold starting is what you would expect - choke, prime, pull until it fires, open choke, pull until it starts.Chain tension management is a breeze using the included wrench, so running in the new chain is no hassle at all. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. If you are not 100% capable of mixing your own fuel/oil mix, just buy the premixed 50:1. I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of people with long term problems either don't mix the fuel and oil correctly, don't use fuel stabilizer and/or have old fuel, are not using high enough octane gasoline (at least 90), or a combination of all 3. It's easy to blame a manufacturer when you don't know what you're doing, especially when you don't read the directions. Husqvarna saws are the industry standard for a reason and should be fed the best quality fuel and oil every time to maintain peak performance. Deviation from any operation or maintenance recommended practices will eventually lead to a poor operating and short-lived saw, which is not the fault of the engineers at Husqvarna. Given the current safety and emissions restrictions placed on engine manufacturers of all kinds, I think Husqvarna has hit it out of the park again and I will continue to be a loyal Husqy customer.
Great saw for regular use
from North Carolina
I had an old, faithful Poulan that finally died after about 20 years, so I needed a new saw. I liked the Huskys, but the Poulans were half the price, came with a case, and I figured 'Maybe another Poulan will last me 20 years?' Nope. Long story short, I returned that pile of junk and paid the difference for the Husky 440. I could not be happier! It started in three pulls right out of the box, and I haven't had to use more than 4 pulls to get it started since then. I think a lot of people having trouble getting them started are likely just flooding them. I push the bulb until I see fuel, and then push once more to prime the carb; usually about three times total, and I've never had issue starting it. I have about 50 acres of mostly wooded land to maintain, live in the south (Hot and Humid!), and heat my house with wood; all the opportunity to give a saw trouble, and I haven't had the first problem. The saw has 30 or 40 hours on it now, and has felled as large as a 40" oak tree without so much as a hiccup. Routine maintenance is easily accessible; it's easy to see this saw's lineage from the commercial saws. I would not hesitate to buy again, and plan to buy more Husqvarna products in the future. My only qualm is that I wish it came with a bar cover; I got one at my local dealer for $8, but it's the principle of the matter.
Great saw once you get it running.

This is a really good saw once you get it running. It's a total pain to start for the first time unfortunately. Once its gets going it cuts fantastic. Great saw for the price, just wish it was a little easier to start.
Perfect all around saw

About Me Professional
I use these saws on a river project they get dropped, they cut in water, they get sand in them. As you can see they are put to the test. They start easily have really good power. The key to these saws are if the bubble is full its primed. Pay no attention to the instructions on the side. DO NOT PRIME IF THE BUBBLE IS FULL. You will flood the saw. Most people aren't as advanced in saws as me and a lot others and these instructions (if followed will make the saw hard to start) So prime until the bubble is full and no more!

Do not purchase
from Raineir Washington
I've read the reviews and you people must be getting paid to write a review if this product. This is possibly the worst investment my family has ever made. Anything that will only start the most unsafe way possible should not be on the market being sold. Wish we would have avoided this purchase. I've gotten MAYBE an hours worth of work out of it. The only way I got it to start was by having the chain unlocked and finger on the trigger. GARBAGE and you're known for your quality. Never ever again.

Don't buy this one
from Lancaster SC
I've had this saw less than 2 mos. It now will not start. I took it back after it would stall several in small trees. I used my smaller saw to finish the tree. After I got it back, it still stalls, now won't crank. I love a husky, my smaller one is about 10 yrs. old. This tells me as usual, older ones are better. The dealer I bought it from wouldn't let me return for a saw that would cut, so I guess I'm stuck with it. I'm not taking it back again for them to tell me they used it to cut on that old tree out back and it worked fine. I've been cutting and burning wood my whole life, so I know when a saw won't cut. Could you please help me, I would be glad to pay the difference to upgrade, I just want a saw that will cut.
bought this to replace similar sized poulan after it died. While I got plenty of service from the cheaper chain saw the extra money for the 440 was well worth it. I have had no problems starting it. I do not know what problems others have, I just follow the instructions on the saw and it cranks right up every time. I have to stop less to refuel and and re fill the oil tank. Only power issue I have had is when I sank the entire bar into a 3 foot thick white oak, which will be a power issue any saw of this size. in short, it runs great every time i need it too, and it does it with less gas and more power.
