What is firmware?
Firmware is data stored inside a product (such as an Automower® robotic lawn mower), providing instructions that enable the product to perform basic tasks and functions and communicate with other devices.
In contrast to software, which most often is meant to be viewed or interacted with by the user, firmware refers to fixed data.
How to update the firmware
Updating the firmware yourself
For some Automower® models, you can easily update the firmware of your Automower® robotic lawn mower yourself, using FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) technology.
Automower® Connect will inform you when there is a new firmware update. All you have to do is follow the instructions on the screen. For detailed instructions on how to update the firmware, see What is FOTA and how do I use it?
Don’t hesitate to contact your local dealer if you need help updating the firmware.
Visit the dealer
Unless you have a model that supports FOTA, you need to take your Automower® robotic lawn mower to your local dealer to update the firmware.
If you take your product to your dealer for service prior to winter storage, they will always update your mower to the latest firmware version.
What happens if I do not update the firmware?
If you do not want to update your mower, you can continue using the mower as before. You will not get access to any new functionality or enhancements.
However, if the firmware update includes a security update and you have an Automower® model that supports firmware updates using FOTA technology (which means that you can update the built-in software yourself), the update is mandatory and will be installed automatically.
