How to test docking with the charging station after installing the boundary and guide wire

To find the charging station, the robotic lawn mower always starts by searching for the charging station signal. After a certain time, it starts searching for the guide and boundary wire to find the charging station.

After installing the boundary and guide wire of your Automower® robotic lawn mower, check that the mower can follow the boundary or guide wire all the way to the charging station and easily dock.

Test the boundary wire — docking

When you have finished installing the boundary wire, we recommend that you make sure that your Automower® robotic lawn mower can follow the boundary wire all the way to the charging station and easily dock. The test should be carried out both clockwise and anti-clockwise (Test right/Test left).

  1. Place the robotic lawn mower about 3 m/10 ft from the boundary wire, facing the wire.
  2. To do the test using Automower® Connect, establish a Bluetooth connection and select More > Settings > Installation > Find charging station > Test: Boundary wire setup.
To perform the test using the mower display, select Installation > Find charging station and navigate to the boundary wire test option. Where to find this depends on the model. You will find the exact menu path in the operator’s manual. Example: Installation > Find charging station > Overview of search methods > Boundary > More > Test right/Test left.
  3. Press START and close the hatch (if applicable to your model).
  4. Check that the product follows the boundary wire to the charging station.
  5. Check that the product docks in the charging station.

If the product does not dock in the charging station, check that the charging station, boundary wire and guide wire are installed as stated in the instructions. Also check that any obstacles close to the wire have been isolated. If this does not help, change the position of the charging station or the boundary wire.

Test the guide wire — docking

When you have finished installing the guide wire, we recommend that you make sure that your Automower® robotic lawn mower can follow the guide wire all the way to the charging station and easily dock. If more than one guide wire is installed, the test should be carried out on all guide wires.

  1. Place the robotic lawn mower about 3 m/10 ft from the guide wire, facing the wire.
  2. To do the test using Automower® Connect, establish a Bluetooth connection and select More > Settings > Installation > Find charging station > Test: Guide X setup.
To perform the test using the mower display, select Installation > Find charging station and navigate to the guide wire test option. Where to find this depends on the model. You will find the exact menu path in the operator’s manual. Example: Installation > Find charging station > Guide > More > Test guide.
  3. Press START and close the hatch (if applicable to your model).
  4. Check that the product follows the guide wire to the charging station.
  5. Check that the product docks in the charging station.

The test is only approved if the mower is able to follow the guide wire the entire distance to the charging station and able to dock on the first attempt. If the robotic lawn mower is unable to dock on the first attempt, it will automatically try again.

If the product does not dock in the charging station, check that the charging station, boundary wire and guide wire are installed as stated in the instructions. Also check that any obstacles close to the wire have been isolated and that the guide wire has been laid at an angle on a steep slope. If this does not help, change the position of the charging station or the guide wire.
