How to install a Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor for use with Husqvarna Fleet Services™

With Husqvarna Fleet Services™ you can attach Husqvarna Fleet machine sensors to any piece of equipment to keep track of its use and last known position. There is no need for the product itself to be connected. The data is stored in the machine sensor’s built-in memory and is transmitted via Bluetooth to either the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ app, a gateway when it is out in the field or to the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ Gateway app once it is back in storage.

Activating a Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor

  1. Unscrew the machine sensor enclosure cover using the special tool and remove the sensor.
  2. Insert a new battery. The LED indicates that it is waiting to be configured with three short blinks per second.
  3. Start the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ mobile or gateway app.
  4. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on and that your device has a reliable Internet connection.
  5. The app will automatically connect the machine sensor to the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ cloud and set it up with the correct date and time. When connected, the LED will show two short blinks every second, indicating ongoing configuration.
  6. Wait for the machine sensor to start blinking every five seconds, indicating a successful activation.

When the machine sensor is activated, it is ready to be paired and installed on a machine.

Pairing a Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor to a specific machine

The Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor must be paired to a specific machine to make the data traceable. Pairing is done in the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ mobile app.

  1. In Husqvarna Fleet Services mobile app, tap Inventory and select the machine. (If the machine is not added to Husqvarna Fleet Services™, you need to add it first, using either the mobile app or the web portal.)
  2. Click Install sensor.
  3. Tap Scan QR code and select Accept if the app requests permission to take photos and record videos.
  4. Scan the QR code at the back of the machine sensor using the camera in your device. Make sure that there is enough light for the camera to be able to capture the code. When the code is captured, the app will automatically add the sensor to the selected machine.

The data collected by the machine sensor will now be linked to the selected machine. When the machine sensor is activated and paired, it is ready to be installed on a machine.

Finding a position for the Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor

  1. Make sure that the machine sensor is activated and paired (see above).
  2. Fit an anti-vibration pad around the machine sensor.
  3. Press the machine sensor into place; align the sensor slot with the enclosure slot. You may have to push, but this is okay as the machine sensor is quite durable.
  4. Start the machine and hold the antenna close to the electrical field coming from the engine. Direct the sensor antenna towards the electrical field coming from the engine. Make sure that you do not cover the antenna with your hand since this will weaken the signal.
    • For petrol products, the machine sensor will blink once for every ignition spark detected.
    • For electric products the machine sensor will have a solid light.
  5. Check the signal strength by moving the machine sensor around and observing the LED.
  6. When you find a good position, the machine sensor will blink once a second.

General positioning guidelines

  • Consider the position of the machine sensor so it does not disturb the handling of the machine when working.
  • On a petrol machine, it is best to place the machine sensor so that it can detect the electric current going through the thick cables to the spark plug.
  • On an electric machine, you may find several spots for good sensor readings.
  • On an electric machine, make sure that you get a good signal with both full clutch engage and low clutch engage.

Attaching a Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor to a machine

The machine sensor can be attached to the machine using pop rivets and two-sided adhesive tape or two-sided adhesive tape only.* It is recommended to use both pop rivets and two-sided adhesive tape. When the machine sensor is attached to the machine, it is ready to track machine usage and position.

    Pop rivets

    1. Clean the surface where you want to place the machine sensor.
    2. Attach the two-sided adhesive tape provided to the back of the machine sensor enclosure.
    3. Position the machine sensor on the machine.
    4. Drill holes to attach the machine sensor enclosure. So as not to damage any internal parts when drilling, you may have to dismantle the machine. Even if you are sure that there is free space behind the machine cover where you are going to drill, we recommend using a drill stop to prevent drilling too deep.
    5. Attach the enclosure with pop rivets through the ears or remove the ears along with the markers and put the rivets inside and behind the machine sensor.
    6. Put the cover on and tighten it using the special tool.

    Two-sided adhesive tape

    1. Clean the surface where you want to place the machine sensor.
    2. Attach the two-sided adhesive tape provided to the back of the machine sensor enclosure.
    3. Position the machine sensor on the machine.

*The two-sided adhesive tape is called spacer in the video above. However, only one type of spacer is included with the machine sensor, not two (as mentioned in the video).

    Naming your machine

When the machine sensor and your machine is all set up, we recommend giving your machine a name with which you can easily identify it in Husqvarna Fleet Services™ and adding a sticker to the machine with the name clearly stated.

Before you put the sticker on the machine, clean the surface. Use a water-resistant pen.
