Block/Pulley

A block or pulley is a convenient way to redirect the winching path to get the operator out of the risk area. It is attached to an anchor point using a sling and a carabiner or a shackle, preferably made of steel.

Using the block correctly – and safely, requires the proper training and experience. Safety first – always!

The block should be of good quality and requisite strength. Always consider the working load limit (WLL) relative to the winch used. Keep in mind that the force at the block can be double the force on the winch, since the block must resist both the force from the winch and force from the tree.
