Why does the chainsaw start and then stop working?
While working with your chainsaw, you may experience it shutting down. This could mean there are some issues with your product.
Chainsaw starts and then stops working
If your chainsaw stops working right after you have started it, this could be due to a few different issues:
The first thing to check is whether your chainsaw has fuel in it. Make sure that the product is filled with fuel and start the chainsaw.
Old fuel is another issue that can affect your chainsaw.
When you store your chainsaw for a short period of time, fuel can become stale. If the product is stored with fuel in it, the fuel can become stale over time. This will result in the system becoming clogged or restricted.
Fuel-related failures are not covered under warranty. The product would need to be serviced by a local authorised service centre.
Before storing your chainsaw, make sure that there is no fuel in it to prevent this type of issue. Always use fresh fuel when you start using your chainsaw.
If your chainsaw still starts and then stops working, check the air filter. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty or damaged.
How to clean the air filter on a chainsaw
Another reason that your chainsaw starts and then stops working could be that the spark arrestor is dirty or clogged. If this is the case, clean it with a wire brush.
Chainsaw stalls or stops working when turned sideways
If your chainsaw shuts down when turned sideways, it is usually because the fuel filter is held away from the fuel, as the position of the chainsaw has changed. The fuel filter must be able to stay in the fuel as the position of the chainsaw is changed.
Husqvarna chainsaws are equipped with fuel lines of specified lengths and flexibility along with weighted fuel filters. This allows the filter to “follow” the fuel and remain submerged. It is important to always use the correct fuel line and fuel filter for your specific chainsaw. You can find this information in the operator’s manual.
Your chainsaw can also shut down when turned sideways due to leakage or because the fuel lines need to be reset. In this case, please contact your local authorised dealer.
