The "XP" Saws

About Me Do-It-Yourself
Comments about HUSQVARNA 3120 XP®:
I've been a Husqvarna man all my life. This is an impressive saw and maybe some day I'll own one but for now I'll stay with my 2101 XP. I felt bad for the guy who had his 2100 stolen. I bought my XP in 1988 and it's as strong as ever. I added another (two) felling dog and installed a full wrap around handle. This saw shows me why most big saws today have a decompression valve for easy starting. My XP has none and it starts nicely. It's all in the technique.

Rippin Machine!
By Zemergy
from Undisclosed
I have owned this saw for over 10 years. I live in Wrightwood Ca, and have cut many large pinon pine, ponderosa pine, oak, and eucaliptus trees with this saw. When it comes to falling the tree, I prefer something along the line of the 390xp; it is lighter and easier to maneuver. When it comes to bucking the trunk, if time is of concern, put all the other saws down and use the 3120xp. Everyone who sees this saw cut is truly impressed with the power it has. A 32" bar and .404 pitch chain is my favorite. This combination I feel balances the saw nicely, and makes the saw comfortable to run for extended periods of time. I also have a 5' bar which I use to make nice straight cuts for tabletops. The downside to this saw is if you, or someone who does not know the saw floods it, you will be worn out trying to start it. It also sucks down gas and oil. Before you purchase this expensive saw ask yourself if you truly have the need. In my opinion many professionals can easily get by with a 390xp, or 395xp. The 3120xp is the ultimate rippin machine!

Bull of the Woods
By CaptainJack

Contract faller for Forest Service. Been using a 2100 since '79. Flew down to Arizona on a forest fire and some low life stole it. Replaced it with a 3100. What an amazing saw. Smooth, fast, well balanced. 48" bar, full wrap handle bar, free wheeling clutch, 404 chisel tooth. What an amazing saw. Even old growth oak won't stop this saw. This one will out last me.

This saw works very well and it isn't really that heavy compared to other brands heavy saws.

The BEAST
By CTS1

Attention: This is a beast of a saw. No tree is too tough. 48 inch bar? Cake walk... 60 inch bar? Every day, ALL day... 72 inch bar? You'll need your big boy boots on... Check around and you'll see most serious pros use this for their biggest jobs for a reason. It works. Step up to a 404 chain if you dare...

Amazing saw
By Flightdrone

I have used this saw for several years now. It's a great saw, power is good. You don't have the fatigue and the end of the day because of the low vibration. The weight of the saw is heavy, as you would expect being an 8.5 hp saw. I have a 36 inch bar attached to the saw which I use to not only to cut very large trees, but making my own boards using the Alaskan Lumber Mill. The 3120 xp does use gas; of course it's a large saw. I do like the automatic oiler and if you need more oil, there is also a lever to add more buy simply moving the lever. I have found this saw great for the work I do with it.
