Why do the bar and chain smoke and do not cut well while using the chainsaw?

While using your chainsaw, you can experience decrease of the chainsaw's power as well as white smoke appearing from the bar and chain.

This most commonly, is a result of:

  • a dull or damaged chain; make sure that the chain is correctly sharpened. A properly sharpened chain will require little pressure to be applied to have it cut correctly and will not result in the chainsaw smoking. If you need to replace the chainsaw chain, use the correct chain type.

  • a lack of bar and chain oil; make sure that the oil tank is filled. If you are using a battery-powered chainsaw, it is easy to forget to fill up the oil tank!
  • the oil holes on your guide bar are dirty or restricted; make sure the guide bar holes are clean so that lubrication is not interrupted.

  • using the wrong type of oil. If the oil has the wrong viscosity it can be slung off the chain and result in bad lubrication. We recommend you use the Husqvarna bar and chain oil. Never use engine oil to lubricate your bar and chain.
