About Me Do-It-Yourself
Comments about 536Li XP® Battery Powered Chainsaw:
Because I'm not using a chainsaw every day, but several times at least each month, I wanted something that would be convenient, without having to worry about the two stroke mixture going stale and the carb gumming up (admittedly, all of the chainsaws I'd owned before, in the US and now where I live in SK, were cheaper ones). And that was part of my calculation as well. The up front cost back then was, if I remember correctly, 800 euros (about the same in dollars) for the saw, two BLi110 batteries and the 300W charger. But considering that a decent saw that I could expect to last and not just throw away after two years of medium use would run at least 400, I opted for this.I have goats and I'm often clearing brush to run fence for them, and it works great for that. I would guess that on one battery you get a similar amount of cutting as one fill of gas for a regular saw. So you can make a guess how much the saw will fit your needs, by how often you're having to fill up the gas in a gas saw while out using it. A friend who works in the forest tried it as well, and he thought it was as good as his gas saws, for that bar length. Just of course batteries are an issue. When I was getting firewood last year, which here involves cutting up the tops of trees after a logging operation has taken the trunks, so not very much over 14 inches, I found that my batteries were running out before I'd quite filled the pickup bed sized trailer on my utility vehicle (4' x 6.5' bed, wood cut to 3' lengths and stacked 3-4' high). I think if I had the next larger size batteries, or just one more BLi110, I would have been able to fill it completely.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Husqvarna 536Li XP® Battery Powered Chainsaw:
The 536Li XP is a great saw, when one is careful to use it for the correct application – speed saw so one can't leverage it/power it into a cut; works best cutting stuff up to about 1/2 the diameter of the bar; instant start so great for limbing, cutting up tops. Just be sure to get the High Capacity BLi150 battery!Yes, taking my time I was able to split down the middle an 18″ dia x 18″ ash log – I do bowl turning. But for this type of work a gas saw with a 24" plus bar is the preferred saw.Late March 2015 the BLi150 batteries seem to be in short supply/back ordered. So it took a couple of weeks to get my saw.For a grab and go saw to cut a few turning blanks from the stock pile, or to trim a blank for turning in the shop, the 536Li XP is great.I went out yesterday, Fri 3 Apr 2015, to do some tree and brush trimming on our property. Great for cutting brush like honeysuckle, privet, multiflora rose. The instant start, no pull, means I can leave the saw off, crawl in, then turn the saw on without needing room to pull start. I also dropped a couple of thin ash and cherry, to give some trees we had planted more light. Then cut up these trees and some other stuff I dropped fall. At the end of the day my cloths didn't smell like oil/gas mix! Not as noisy as a gas saw but you will still want ear protection. The 536li is almost instant stop on the chain when you release the tigger, doesn't coast like a gas saw. And the 536li is easy to safe - pushing the chain brake forward disengages power from the trigger.Con - battery pack needs a clip ring for a keeper strap or loop. Once the battery is released it will come right out.Unlike the Ryobi, Black and Decker, with the pain to use trigger lock button that one needs to push sideways – marginal on a circular saw, impossible on a chainsaw. The 536li has a handle trigger lock so gripping the handle unlocks the throttle. And there is no comparison between 18 V and 36 V batteries.
