Top-handle battery chainsaw with outstanding cutting capacity and heated handles

This 40V battery-powered top-handle chainsaw is the world’s first top-handle battery chainsaw with a clutch. The T542i XP® delivers added torque and power output equivalent to 40cc gas engines. Ideal for tree care professionals and climbing arborists, this saw has an IPX4 rating for use in rain or shine. And proprietary active cooling technology delivers more consistent power and helps extend battery life. Combined with our X-PRECISION® guide bar and SP21G chain, this saw feels like gas, performs like gas, but has all the benefits of battery. XP G model comes equipped with heated handles.

Frequently asked questions

How do the heated handles on the T542i XP® G affect the chainsaw's battery runtime?

The heated handles on the T542i XP® G are designed for high energy efficiency, drawing minimal power from the 40V battery system. While using the heat feature during extreme cold may slightly impact overall runtime, the productivity gains—such as maintaining hand dexterity and reducing the need for frequent breaks—often outweigh the marginal battery drain. For maximum efficiency, users can toggle the heat on and off via the intuitive keypad.

Is the Husqvarna T542i XP® G powerful enough to replace a 40cc gas top-handle saw?

Yes. The T542i XP® G delivers 2.4 hp and a chain speed of 24 m/s (79 fts), making it a true 40cc gas equivalent. The addition of the centrifugal clutch provides the "kick-start" energy pros expect from a gas saw, ensuring the chain doesn't stall when entering a cut, even in dense hardwoods or frozen wood.

Why does a battery chainsaw like the T542i XP® G need a centrifugal clutch?

The clutch allows for a smoother, more tactile response similar to a petrol saw. For climbing arborists, it provides a "restart without a head start" feature, allowing the saw to be restarted while still in the cut if it stops. This eliminates the need to pull the saw out of a tight notch, significantly increasing safety and speed when working in the canopy.

Can the T542i XP® G be used in snow and freezing rain?

The T542i XP® G is IPX4-rated for weather resistance, meaning it is protected against splashing water from any angle, including rain and snow. Combined with the heated handles that keep the operator's hands warm and flexible, this saw is specifically engineered for professional tree care in harsh, northern climates where gas saws often struggle with cold-start issues.

Is the T542i XP® G compatible with existing Husqvarna 40V batteries?

Yes. The T542i XP® G is part of the Husqvarna BLi-X 40V ecosystem. Professional crews can use the same 40-B220X or 40-B330X batteries across their entire fleet, including the T542i XP (top-handle) and 525i series trimmers. This cross-compatibility maximizes ROI by reducing the number of spare batteries needed on a job site.
