How do I adjust the adjustable oil pump on the 455 Rancher?

The 455 Rancher features an adjustable oil pump located on the bottom of the saw. Using a flat-head screwdriver, you can turn the adjustment screw to increase or decrease oil flow to the bar. For a 20-inch bar or when cutting dry, hard woods, turn the screw toward the "+" sign for maximum lubrication. For smaller bars or lighter cutting, you can reduce the flow to save oil. Note that the oiler is designed to stop pumping at idle to prevent mess.

What is the benefit of the Smart Start® and Decompression Valve on the 455 Rancher?

The Smart Start® technology and the integrated decompression valve are designed to reduce the resistance in the starter cord by up to 40%. By pressing the decompression valve before pulling the starter rope, you release compression from the cylinder, allowing the engine to turn over with significantly less effort. This not only makes the saw easier to start in cold weather but also reduces wear and tear on the starter housing and rope over the life of the machine.
