Professional top-handle battery chainsaw with outstanding cutting capacity

This 40V battery-powered top-handle chainsaw is the world’s first top-handle battery chainsaw with a clutch. The T542i XP® delivers added torque and power output equivalent to 40cc gas engines. Ideal for tree care professionals and climbing arborists, this saw has an IPX4 rating for use in rain or shine. And proprietary active cooling technology delivers more consistent power and helps extend battery life. Combined with our X-PRECISION® guide bar and SP21G chain, this saw feels like gas, performs like gas, but has all the benefits of battery.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my existing Husqvarna batteries with the T542i XP Tool Only?

Yes, the T542i XP is compatible with all Husqvarna 40V batteries. However, to achieve the full 2.4 hp (40cc equivalent) performance and take advantage of the centrifugal clutch, we recommend using the 40-B220X or 40-B330X batteries. These professional-grade batteries are designed to handle the high current draw required for heavy-duty arborist applications.

How does the Husqvarna T542i XP performance compare to a 40cc gas chainsaw?

The T542i XP provides power and torque equivalent to a 40cc gas engine but with the instant response of a battery motor. Unlike traditional battery saws, its unique centrifugal clutch provides "kick-start" energy at the beginning of each cut, mimicking the tactile feel and engagement of a petrol saw while maintaining a high chain speed of 24 m/s.

How long will the battery last on the T542i XP during professional tree work?

Runtime varies by battery choice and task. When paired with the recommended 40-B220X battery, the T542i XP is designed for a full sequence of pruning and limbing. For extended professional use, the saw’s active cooling technology and savE™ mode optimize energy consumption, delivering up to 10% more cuts than previous models like the T540i XP.

Does the centrifugal clutch on the T542i XP require different maintenance than a gas saw?

No. The T542i XP® uses a traditional centrifugal clutch, so clutch and sprocket inspection, cleaning, and wear checks are maintained the same way as a gas saw; the difference is that battery power eliminates engine‑related maintenance like air filters, spark plugs, and fuel system service—resulting in less overall upkeep, not different clutch care.

Is the T542i XP suitable for use in wet weather or climbing applications?

Yes. The T542i XP is IPX4-rated when the battery is properly installed into the battery compartment, making it weatherproof for use in rain or shine. For climbing, it features an integrated rope eyelet and a belt eyelet for secure harness attachment. Its 12.9 lb working weight (with 4.0Ah battery) and balanced top-handle design are specifically engineered for one-handed maneuverability and overhead precision.
