Automower NERA wire free installation via the Cloud
How-To's & Guides

How to plan a wire free lawn mower installation in my garden

Husqvarna's intelligent satellite-based technology EPOS (Exact Positioning Operating System) enables you to create virtual boundaries for your mower via the Automower® Connect app. Designed to deliver high precision accuracy in seconds, the satellite signals require an open sky view to ensure optimal technical conditions. Therefore buildings or trees in or around the lawn can block the satellite signals. Please see the below guide on how to plan your virtual installation to ensure an optimum mowing experience.

5 steps
01.
Placement of the charging station
2024 BWF installation charging station
The charging station needs to be placed so that the docking point can be positioned in an open area with a clear sky view (not under trees or a roof).
The docking point is a virtual point, usually positioned 1-2 meters in front of the charging station, that lets your mower know where the charging station is. Note that only the docking point needs a clear sky view, not the charging station itself.

The distance between elevated objects, like hedges or buildings, must be at least 6 m (19.7 ft) wide around the charging station, so as not to block the signal between the satellites and the charging station.

The charging station needs to have access to a power supply and for 305E NERA, 310E NERA or 320 NERA, you need to have Wi-Fi coverage as these models do not have cellular connectivity.
02.
Narrow passages
BWF installation narrow passages

If your lawn has narrow passages with elevated objects on either side, like buildings, hedges or trees, the distance between these needs to be at least 4 m (13.1 ft) to ensure that there is reliable coverage in these areas.

For areas narrower than 4 m (13.1 ft), the Support by Wire feature can be used or a transport path can be created so that the mower can pass through this passage but will not mow.

03.
Trees close to the boundary
BWF installation tree areas

If there are trees around the edge of the lawn, where the distance between the crown of the tree and the  boundary is less than 4m (13.1 ft), they can impact satellite coverage and lead to brief or extended interruptions.

These areas can also benefit from the Support by Wire feature.

04.
L-shaped elevated areas
2024 BWF installation L shape areas
If there are buildings in the work area that are in a L-shaped form, these can block the satellite signals, which can affect how the mower operates in this area. For example, in the inner corner of an L-shaped house.

In these areas the virtual boundary can be placed at least 1.5 m (4.9 ft) from the building or the Support by Wire feature can be used.
05.
Activating EPOS
2024 BWF installation reference station

The RTK correction data for the satellite technology (EPOS) is provided via the Husqvarna Cloud at no additional cost. However, if you do not have a cellular* or Wi-Fi** coverage across your full lawn area then you will need to purchase the Husqvarna EPOS™ RS1 Reference Station as an additional accessory.

The reference station needs to be mounted within reach of a power supply and with an open view of the sky. At least 135° degrees of clear sky above the reference station is needed for reliable operation on your lawn. The mower does not require to be in line of sight with the reference station to be able to mow.

*Cellular (4G mobile network) connectivity is available on 405XE NERA, 410XE NERA, 430X NERA, 435X AWD NERA and 450X NERA.
** Wi-Fi connectivity is available on 305E NERA, 310E NERA, 320 NERA, 405XE NERA, 410XE NERA, 430X NERA and 450X NERA.
