How to adjust the drive belt cable on a snow blower
Keeping the drive belt cable properly adjusted on your Husqvarna snow blower is key to smooth operation and safe performance.
If the cable is too loose or too tight, the snow blower may not drive correctly—or worse, it could move unexpectedly.
This guide walks you through the steps to safely adjust the drive belt cable.
Safety first
- Always stop the engine and remove the ON/OFF key before making adjustments.
- Wait until the auger, impeller and all moving parts have completely stopped.
- Disconnect the spark plug cable and keep it away from the spark plug to prevent accidental start.
When to adjust the drive engagement cable
- Increase tension if the drive does not engage when you push and hold the drive engagement lever.
- Decrease tension if the snow blower does not immediately stop when you release the drive engagement lever.
WARNING: Do not overtighten the cable. Too much tension can cause the snow blower to move forwards on its own, leading to potential injury or damage.
Step by step: Adjusting the drive belt cable
- Hold the adjustment screw in position and loosen the locknut.
- Adjust the cable tension:
- Turn the adjustment screw clockwise to increase tension.
- Turn the adjustment screw anticlockwise to decrease the tension. - Hold the adjustment screw in position and tighten the locknut.
- Start the engine.
- Move the drive speed control lever from the middle position upwards.
- Push and hold the drive engagement lever—the snow blower should move forwards.
- Release the drive engagement lever—the snow blower should stop immediately.
Final tip
Check the cable adjustment regularly, especially before heavy snowfalls. A properly adjusted drive cable keeps your Husqvarna snow blower safe, reliable and ready for winter.
