Unless you have areas in your garden that your robotic mower installation does not cover, you will not need an ordinary lawn mower when you have installed your Automower® robotic lawn mower.
However, depending on how your installation is made and your mower model, you may need to complement the edges with a trimmer to get the perfect finish for your lawn. For minimised trimming you can select our range of mowers with the EdgeCut feature, which have a dedicated rear disc that can cut so close to the edges that only a minimum of grass is left uncut, saving you time and effort.
The basic rule is that what you can mow with a conventional mower, you can normally mow with Automower® robotic mower. The convenience advantage may be limited in a very fragmented lawn, that is, if your lawn consists of many small patches of lawn separated by for example steps, as the mower has to be moved manually between them.
When installing the boundary, you just need to make sure that the mower cannot go to areas you do not wish to cut, such as flower beds and rockeries. Automower® robotic mower will go only where you want it to go – never in the street or into a neighbour’s garden.
For residential gardens, our current range of Automower® robotic mowers operate quietly, with sound levels similar to a typical conversation, which is around 60dB.
In commercial settings, our range of Automower® and CEORA® robotic mowers’ noise levels are around 60 and 70 dB, akin to a typical conversation and a running dishwasher. This reduces noise disturbance compared to conventional petrol-powered solutions, showing regard for the immediate surroundings.
Battery life depends on several factors; the set mowing time per day, structure and undulation of the mowing surface, location of the charging station, etc. To extend the life of the battery, the following measures should be taken:
- Avoid leaving the robotic lawn mower constantly charging, i.e. during periods when it is not in use
- Avoid discharges, make sure there is always power in the battery
- If possible, avoid placing the charging station in direct sunlight
- Maintenance charge the battery twice during winter storage
- Store the robotic lawn mower at a minimum of +5°C and a maximum of +20°C - Consider booking winter service maintenance with our experienced dealers
The battery life of a robotic mower varies depending on the specific model and its features. Generally, robotic mowers for residential gardens can operate for one to two hours on a single charge; however, the exact duration differs. Additionally, the charging time of robotic mower batteries can vary depending on the model, typically taking around an hour for a full recharge.
For our commercial robotic mowers, we offer a range of options tailored to different needs. The charging time for our commercial robotic mowers spans from 50 minutes for the Automower® 520 to 150 minutes for the CEORA® 546 EPOS®. Similarly, the running time varies from 75 minutes for the Automower® 520 to 250 minutes for the CEORA® 546 EPOS®.
For specific information regarding battery capacity, charging time, and operating time for each robotic mower model, we refer to the specifications section under each product listing.
For residential robotic mowers, depending on your mower model you will either have a keypad or jogwheel which is used to acess the menu on the mower, alternatively the mower menu can be accesssed via the Automower® Connect app. A common feature for all robotic mower models is the large stop button.
For commercial robotic mowers, the functions on the product’s HMI panel are limited to avoid misuse by unauthorised persons. Control, settings, and monitoring are done via the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ mobile app.
All models have a maximum capacity in terms of area coverage, but several parameters need to be considered to determine the specific capacity for an individual area.
For example, the number of hours per day that it is allowed to work, the nature and moisture level of the turf, the flatness of the surface, elements of slopes, and the type and amount of fixed obstacles that involve many turns for the mower, etc. Read more about our line-up here.
You can install two or more machines side by side. We have numerous “multiple” installations worldwide. Simply reach out to your nearest dealer for support.
Third-party research and multi-year studies from Norway, Germany, and Italy demonstrate that robotic lawn mowers, such as Husqvarna CEORA® and Automower®, and their cutting systems achieve better grass quality than machines with a rotor-equipped cutting system. Robotic mowers not only save time, but also result in denser, finer and smoother grass that is consistently cut at the same height. Given these insights, Marco Volterrani from the University of Pisa, Italy, also recommends use on golf courses, as robotic mowing provides a result that is at least on par with cylinder mowing. Read more about the research.
Mowing in a seemingly random pattern, where the grass is cut in various directions, fosters the development of a lush, carpet-like lawn across your entire garden. This approach has demonstrated its reliability over 30 years, ensuring comprehensive coverage with no patches of uncut grass.
Systematic mowing, a feature for robotic lawn mowers equipped with Husqvarna EPOS® technology, functions by cutting grass in methodical parallel tracks. This method creates a visually appealing striped effect on the lawn, providing a neat and uniform appearance.
Systematic mowing is more time efficient by cutting each blade of grass only once, unlike random mowing, where blades are cut multiple times in different directions.
You can recover your PIN code using the Automower® Connect app or by contacting a dealer.
For CEORA® and Automower® commercial robotic mowers, the security code is managed via the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ app. However, if problems arise, please contact your dealer.
The Automower® Connect app supports both iOS and android, please see a complete list here of the supported operating systems. If your smartphone operating system is not supported then you will not be able to install the Automower® Connect app which is needed to install a NERA mower.

Robotic mowers are beneficial for your lawn and immediate environment, due to its battery-powered and quiet operation.
Since Husqvarna Automower® and CEORA® robotic mowers run on batteries, they generate no CO₂ emissions during use, unlike conventional petrol-powered mowers. However, CO₂ emissions are generated during other stages of the product’s life cycle, including production, charging, and end-of life disposal. The energy consumption of Automower® robotic mowers is very low, even lower than that of a traditional 60W light bulb.
Moreover, our current range of Automower® robotic mowers for gardens operate quietly, with sound levels around 60dB, similar to a typical conversation. This allows you to have your robotic mower working while hosting a garden party, without worrying about disturbing noise or fuel fumes.
Our commercial range of Husqvarna Automower® and CEORA® robotic mowers have sound levels around 60dB and 70dB, which can be compared to ranging between a normal conversation and running a dishwasher. This ensures less disturbance for residents, guests, or staff in the immediate environment compared to conventional petrol-powered mowers.
Furthermore, because Husqvarna Automower® and CEORA® robotic mowers cut grass continuously in small increments, the clippings are fine enough to be recycled back into the soil as a natural fertiliser. This leads to a lusher, denser, and healthier lawn, thereby reducing the need of synthetic fertilisers.

Find my lawn's favourite mowerTerrain and objects
Some Husqvarna robotic mowers have built-in sensors that detect obstacles through either radar or untrasonic sensors. These sensors can detect objects on the lawn and enable the mower to avoid them, which provides precise cutting and reduces the risk of impact and unplanned stops.
To avoid unnecessary stops during mowing and to optimise blade life, the lawn should be kept clear. Minor objects, like fruit and pine cones, will not damage the mower, but the blades will wear faster. Fallen tree branches may block the cutting disc and stop the mower or bend the blades, resulting in a poor cutting performance.
Provided the boundary has been installed correctly around your flower bed, tree, shrub, or other object, Automower® cannot damage it or intrude into that area.
If at a later point you need to temporarily fence off a certain area from being mowed by your robotic lawn mower, our Automower® models with zone control allow you to easily create temporary stay-out zones via the Automower® Connect app. We offer a range of zone control solutions which you can view here, for example when the spring flowers are blooming, when the kids’ inflatable summer pool is in use, or when you have a spot with freshly sown grass.
More or less, yes. Husqvarna Automower® robotic mowers work within a boundary that is easily created by you or your local dealer. It is a dependable and effective system that can be customised to suit almost any garden layout. The varied layouts and slopes in your garden determine the suitability of different robotic mower models within our range. Each mower's specifications are addressed in detail on each model, and within our extensive range, there is likely a fit for your requirements.
All Husqvarna robotic mowers can handle uneven surfaces and slopes. The ability to handle different steep slopes varies from model to model, more information can be find on the specification for each product model. If there is a need to mow very steep slopes, one of our models with AWD technology is recommended. Their special design allows them to handle up to 70% incline.
To minimise wear on the grass on tough slopes, it is important that the guide leads the mower diagonally up and down the slope. If a slope is very steep (50–70%), you also need to make sure that there are no obstacles, such as trees or stones, in the slope.
Remember to clean the wheels from grass regularly with a soft brush. If there is a lot of grass stuck on the wheels, the mower may not be able to ascend and descend the slope as intended.
There is also a robotic mower terrain kit available as an accessory for most models, which contains heavy rear wheels and wheel brushes for excellent traction on sloping lawns.
Yes, Automower® robotic mowers can handle narrow passages down to a width of 60 cms.
For mowers with a virtual installation via satellite technology, passages that are narrower than 4m with tall hedges or walls on either side can block the satellite signals causing the mower to stop. Find out more about planning for a virtual installation here.
Installation
It is a flexible solution that makes it easier to make midseason changes to your installation and for creating zones for tailored mowing. The mower always stays inside the defined boundary, in all weather and garden conditions. The boundaries are visible in the map section of the app. A virtual boundary is more resilient since there's no risk of physically damaging or completely cutting off the wire by accident.
Husqvarna offers two possibilities: wire free installation via satellite technology or installation with physical boundary wires, click here to find out more. Alternatively, contact your local Husqvarna dealer to find out about the installation services that they offer
For homeowners, many of our mower models have an onboard GPS that simplifies installation and assists with the navigation. For the few models that don't include GPS, this can be added as an additonal accessory via the Automower® Connect Kit which enables geofence tracking and remote control of your Automower® robotic mower.
All commercial robotic mowers are equipped with GPS functionality. This is partly to optimise the surface coverage of an installation, but also for checking, establishing settings and monitoring its status and work. If necessary, geofence tracking can be activated.
The physical boundary wire is a highly robust and reliable system that has been progressively refined since Husqvarna introduced the technology in 1995. A wire installation is easy to expand and optimise down to the centimetre level, if desired. The real strength of wire technology becomes evident in installations where larger tree canopies are present, as well as in installations where buildings possess taller facades. In these instances, wire free technology may be limited unless a sufficient line of sight to the positions of the satellites can be established.
Solar Charger solutions for Charging Station and Reference Station are under development and will be launched during spring 2024. Read more about the solution.
The EPOS satellite signals require an open sky view to ensure optimal technical conditions, so buildings or trees in or around the lawn can block the satellite signals. Click here to see our guide on how to plan your virtual installation to ensure an optimum mowing experience.
The Automower® Connect Kit can be purchased as an additional accessory for these mowers.
These mowers can be used with or without the optional EPOS Plug-in accessory. This accessory enables wire free installation but for those who don’t want that functionality, then the mower will work without the accessory, using the standard boundary wire installation. Automower® 435X AWD NERA comes with the EPOS attached, this can not be removed but the mower offers the user to choose a virtual boundary wire or physical boundary wire installation.
No, the EPOS satellite technology is provided via the Husqvarna Cloud at no additional cost when you purchase the EPOS Plug-in or Automower® 435X AWD NERA.
Maintenance and care
Replacing blades regularly is vital to maintain an excellent cutting result. Now and then, depending on your lawn size, you should spend a few minutes cleaning grass from the wheels and chassis. Keeping your robotic mower clean is also a way to secure a more reliable experience. Read Husqvarna's guide on how to clean your robotic mower. Husqvarna offers a range of robotic mower accessories for maintaining your mower.
The life of the blades depends on the type of soil and grass. Typically, the life is 1-2 months on 1000 m² but in high growth periods during the spring or when there is a lot of fallen apples which cause wear and tear to your blades you may need to replace these more often.
You can replace the lightweight robotic mower blades in five minutes using a regular screwdriver. Follow our step by step guide here.
For professional installations, it is common to have much closer intervals for blade changes. Every week is not unusual in the maintenance of premium level golf and sports surfaces.
Yes, if you don’t have to mow in the winter. Before storing Husqvarna Automower® robotic mower, it should be fully charged, cleaned and wiped dry and then stored in dry frost-free conditions. We also recommend that the charging station is stored indoors over the winter. The loop wire installation should remain in the lawn. A Husqvarna dealer also provides winter service and storage which is a good option if you want to make sure that Husqvarna Automower® robotic mower is ready for the new season when spring arrives. Husqvarna offers a range of Automower® accessories for storing your mower.
You can obtain service and find spare parts at your nearest authorised service point. To locate one, use the Dealer locator.
Safety
While Husqvarna Automower® and CEORA® robotic mowers operate at low power, their blades still have the potential to cause injury. Equipped with sensors, the blades begin to slow down to a stop when the mower is lifted or overturned. The body of the robotic mower is larger than the diameter of the cutting system allowing for space between the blades and the edge of the body. In any case, robotic mowers should not be used when people, especially children or animals, are in the work area. In public areas, it is important to place clear warning signs about the operation of autonomous products, or park the product in its charging station if people are unaware of its presence. For more safety precautions see the operator manual.
Yes, both Automower® and CEORA® robotic mowers have several theft protection systems that may be activated if your robotic mower gets stolen. Most importantly, Automower® and CEORA® robotic mowers cannot be used without the personal PIN code. The installation lock prevents the robotic mower from functioning on any other installation than your own. The time lock requests your four-digit PIN to be entered at an interval decided by yourself. The alarm requires the PIN code to be entered when the robotic mower is stopped, or an audio alarm will go off. Additionally, some of our residential mower models and all of the commercial robotic mowers are equipped with geofence tracking. For the few models that don't include GPS, this can be added as an additonal accessory via the Automower® Connect Kit which enables geofence tracking and remote control of your Automower® robotic mower.
The operator is responsible for any accidents or hazards that occur to other persons or property. It is crucial to adhere carefully to the operator manual provided by Husqvarna and ensure understanding of the instructions before operating the product.
