Protect your lawn with Automower® Frost Guard options
To protect your lawn from frost damage, Automower® robotic lawn mowers offer two ways to enable Frost Guard, depending on model: through Smart Routines in the Automower® Connect app or via the Frost Guard setting for models with built-in temperature sensors.
1. Frost Guard via Automower® Smart Routines
With the Automower® Frost Guard Smart Routine, your mower will respond to real-time weather conditions in your area, returning to the charging station when it is getting too cold. The mower will be parked if the weather forecast predicts that the temperature will go below 5°C (41°F). Frost Guard Smart Routine relies on the weather forecast, which may not always match actual weather conditions.
Supported mower models
- Automower® models with Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity
- Automower® models equipped with an Automower® Connect kit
- Automower® models that do not have a temperature sensor. If your robotic lawn mower has a temperature sensor, the Frost Guard Smart Routine will not be available, and you can use the Frost Guard operation setting.
How to enable or disable Frost Guard Smart Routine
- Open the Automower® Connect app.
- Tap the More button.
- Select Smart Home.
- Choose Automower® Smart Routines.
- Enable Frost Guard by sliding the toggle button to the right.
- To disable Frost Guard, simply slide the toggle button to the left.
How Frost Guard Smart Routine resumes operation
The mower will start operating according to the schedule again once the temperature goes above risk for frost. There may be a delay between when it starts getting warmer and when the mower starts operating again, depending on when the Automower® Connect app synchronises with the weather service.
How do I know if a Smart Routine has parked my mower?
Sometimes your Automower® robotic lawn mower might be parked even though it’s scheduled to mow. The reason could be a Smart Routine, like Frost Guard, Rain Guard or Consideration for Wildlife. In those cases, you’ll usually see a message in the Automower® Connect app explaining why, such as ‘Set by Frost Guard’.
If you have an older Automower® model, the app might not show a reason. It will just stay parked without any extra information.
2. Frost Guard via temperature sensor setting
Some Automower® models have built-in temperature sensors that detect when the temperature is cold and there is risk of frost. For these models, you can turn on an Operation setting to enable Frost Guard.
So if you notice that your mower is parked in the charging station on a chilly morning even though it is scheduled to operate, it may be because of the Frost Guard Operation setting.
Supported mower models
- Automower® models with a temperature sensor.
- If your robotic lawn mower does not have a temperature sensor but has Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity, you can use the Frost Guard Smart Routine.
How Frost Guard Operation setting works
- If the temperature is 5°C (41°F) or below when the mower is scheduled to start, the Frost Guard will delay starting by one hour.
- When parked, the mower will continue to check the temperature every hour when it is scheduled.
- It will only start when the temperature is higher than 5°C (41°F).
The temperature is measured by a sensor located inside the chassis. The registered value may therefore differ slightly from the ambient temperature.
How to enable or disable the Frost Guard setting
Using the Automower® Connect app:
More > Settings > Operation > Frost GuardUsing the mower display:
Settings > Installation > Frost Guard
