How to replace auger shear pins on a snow blower

Auger shear pins are an important safety feature on your Husqvarna snow blower. These small but critical components are designed to prevent damage to your product if the auger hits a hard object like ice, rocks or debris.

When an obstruction jams the auger, the shear pins break to protect the gearbox and engine from costly damage. Replacing them is simple if you follow the proper safety steps.

Safety first

  • Turn off the engine.
  • Remove the ON/OFF key.
  • Wait for all moving parts—including the auger and impeller—to come a compete stop.
  • Disconnect the spark plug wire and move it away from the spark plug.

CAUTION: Use only approved Husqvarna equipment shear pins supplied with the product. Using non-genuine parts may void your warranty and cause equipment damage.

Tools you will need

  • Protective gloves
  • Sheer pins—included with the product

Step-by-step replacement of auger shear pins for a snow blower

  1. Align the holes—rotate the auger until the hole in the auger hub lines up with the hole in the auger shaft.
  2. Install a new shear pin—slide the shear pin through both holes.
  3. Secure with a lock pin—push the lock pin into place to secure the shear pin.

Before starting, refill the fuel in your petrol-powered snow blower.

Final tips

  • Keep extra Husqvarna shear pins on hand—they are essential for winter maintenance.
  • Regularly check the auger pins during the snow season, especially if you hear unusual noises or if the auger stops turning.
