Unable to create a docking point—Automower® with EPOS® wire free technology error message
The error message Unable to create docking point indicates that Automower® cannot determine a reliable position for the docking point during EPOS® wire free setup. This is usually caused by limited satellite reception or Wi-Fi coverage issues.
Follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue.
1. Move the mower to an area with open sky view
The docking point requires a clear view of the sky to receive satellite signals. Dense trees, buildings, or other obstacles may interfere with positioning.
- Use the app to drive the mower to an open area of the lawn with a clear sky view.
- Wait until the EPOS® status in the app is confirmed. The check symbol will turn green. See image below.
- Drive the robotic lawnmower back to the charging station.
- Retry creating the docking point.
2. Adjust the docking point distance
During initial installation of Automower®, you can set the distance between the charging station and the docking point in the Automower® Connect app. Choosing the right distance helps ensure optimal satellite reception at the docking point.
- If the charging station is placed close to a house wall or other building, set the distance to the maximum recommended length to achieve better satellite visibility.
- If there are obstacles or buildings opposite the charging station, you may need to shorten the distance instead.
- If creating the docking point still fails after adjusting the distance, you may need to change the placement of the charging station to an area where the docking point gets better sky visibility.
Can the docking point position be updated after initial setup?
The position of the docking point, so how far it drives when leaving the charging station, is fixed after installation. To change it, the charging station must be reinstalled.
To reinstall the charging station:
- In the app, go to the Map section > Map objects and scroll down.
- Tap Charging station > Reinstall.
- Follow the instructions in the app.
- A new docking point will be created and you can anew select the mower’s reversing distance from the charging station.
3. Ensure stable Wi-Fi coverage (EPOS® installation via the Husqvarna Cloud)
- For mower models that only support Wi-Fi (not mobile connectivity), stable coverage from your home Wi-Fi is required throughout the entire work area, including around the charging station, to complete the docking point setup.
- Make sure there is stable Wi-Fi coverage in the whole work area, including around the charging station.
How to check Wi-Fi coverage
To verify that the lawn has sufficient Wi-Fi coverage:
- Use a smartphone connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Automower®.
- Walk through the docking point area and surrounding parts of the lawn.
- Check the Wi-Fi signal strength on the phone.
- The Wi-Fi symbol should show at least one bar for Automower® to operate reliably.
- A weak Wi-Fi signal in some lawn areas can be resolved by using a Wi-Fi extender or mesh system, adding mobile connectivity via an Automower® Connect kit installed by a dealer, or installing a Husqvarna EPOS® RS1 reference station for a stable local signal independent of Wi-Fi. Note that installation requirements vary per model. Read more about Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues on Automower® robotic lawn mowers.
