Install and use Automower® FlexiFence in boundary wire installations

If you want to keep your robotic lawn mower out of a specific area without installing a permanent boundary wire, Automower® FlexiFence lets you create a battery-powered zone in the work area.

What Automower® FlexiFence does

Automower® FlexiFence creates a zone that the robotic lawn mower cannot enter or cut grass in. To use it with your robotic lawn mower, a firmware update may be necessary; speak to your Husqvarna representative for more information.

Installation requirements

  • The FlexiFence boundary wire is 15 m/50 ft long and cannot be extended.
  • Automower® FlexiFence cannot be attached to an existing boundary wire; it must stand independently.
  • You can use more than one Automower® FlexiFence in the same installation.
  • Install the zone in the work area, but not across a guide wire.
  • Keep the FlexiFence and all objects in the FlexiFence area at least 35 cm/14 in. from the zone boundary wire.
  • Keep at least 60 cm/24 in. between the zone boundary wire and the boundary wire of the work area.
  • Keep at least 60 cm/24 in. between the zone boundary wire and the guide wire.
  • If you use more than one Automower® FlexiFence, keep at least 60 cm/24 in. between the zone boundary wires.
  • Make sure that slopes in the FlexiFence area are a max of 10% gradient.
  • Do not let the zone boundary wire cross itself, or the boundary wire of another zone boundary wire installation, as this can cause interference.

Installing FlexiFence

  1. Put the zone boundary wire around the zone.
  2. Cut the 2 ends of the zone boundary wire.
  3. Attach 1 connector to each end of the zone boundary wire.
  4. Attach the 2 connectors to the 2 connections on the product.
  5. Use a hammer or a plastic mallet to attach the zone boundary wire to the ground with stakes a maximum of 75 cm/30 in. apart.
  6. Put the product in the zone and attach it to the ground with stakes, using a hammer or a plastic mallet.

Enabling the FlexiFence function on your robotic lawn mower

If you install the Automower® FlexiFence accessory, you must also enable the FlexiFence function on your robotic lawn mower. If your robotic lawn mower does not have FlexiFence in the menu, a firmware update is necessary. Contact your Husqvarna dealer for assistance.

  1. Push the STOP button, use the number buttons and the OK button to enter the PIN code, then push the MENU button to access the menu.
  2. Use the arrow buttons and the OK button to move through the menu structure Settings > Installation > FlexiFence.
  3. Push the OK button to enable FlexiFence.
  4. Push the BACK button.

Testing the installation

  1. Set the product to ON and make sure the LED indicator is green.
  2. Make sure ECO mode on the robotic lawn mower is disabled.
  3. Put the robotic lawn mower 1 to 2 m in front of the zone, pointing towards it.
  4. Start the robotic lawn mower and make sure it stops by the zone boundary wire.

Charging the battery

Charge the battery fully before you start the product for the first time. The product does not operate while it charges. The battery is fully charged when the LED indicator lights up orange.

  1. Remove the cover of the product.
  2. Remove the sealing cap.
  3. Connect the USB-C charging cable to the charging socket.
  4. Connect the USB-A charging cable to a power supply unit.
  5. Connect the power supply unit to a power outlet.
  6. Check that the LED indicator flashes orange to confirm the battery is charging.

Note: a 5 V power supply unit with a USB socket is not included.

If FlexiFence is not used for a long time, charge the battery to a minimum of 60% every 3 months. Also charge it to a minimum of 60% before starting the product again after long-term storage.

LED indicator, battery capacity

The LED indicator comes on when the battery state of charge is less than 10%. To show it when the charge is above 10%, push the ON/OFF button for 5 seconds.

Troubleshooting

Light
Cause
Solution
Flashes white 5 times
The battery is empty or there is an error.
Press the ON/OFF button for 5 seconds to see the status.
Blue LED
The zone boundary wire is defective or not connected.
Replace or connect the zone boundary wire.
Purple LED
The product cannot find the boundary wire for the work area. ECO mode is enabled or the zone range is incorrect.
Check the boundary wire for the work area and replace it if defective: make sure it is installed correctly, make sure the charging station is connected to a power outlet, disable ECO mode.
Red LED
The temperature of the product is too high.
Put the product in an area protected from the sun and let the temperature decrease before starting it again. If the problem remains, speak to your local Husqvarna representative.
Symptom
Cause
Solution
The robotic lawn mower stops with the fault message "Zone generator problem".
The battery of the FlexiFence is low; it does not operate when the battery is empty and the robotic lawn mower can cut in the zone if started before the FlexiFence is charged. Alternatively, the FlexiFence is automatically set to off because its temperature is above the maximum limit.
Charge the battery of the FlexiFence before starting the robotic lawn mower or put the product in an area protected from the sun and let it cool down before starting it again.
The robotic lawn mower enters the FlexiFence zone.
Software transfer problem.
Push the ON/OFF button for 15 seconds to restart the product.

Storage

  1. Charge the battery of the product.
  2. Clean FlexiFence.
  3. Put the product into storage in a dry, closed, frost-free area.
