ECO mode on Automower®: what it is and when to use it
ECO mode is an energy-saving feature for Automower® robotic lawn mowers. When the mower is parked in the charging station, ECO mode temporarily turns off the signals in the boundary loop, guide wire and charging station. This reduces energy use and minimises potential interference with nearby electronics (for example, hearing aids or garage door openers).
How ECO mode works
When ECO mode is enabled:
- While parked: The boundary loop, guide wire and charging station signals are off. The charging station LED flashes green to show ECO mode is active.
- When it’s time to mow: The signals automatically turn on at the scheduled start time.
- When mowing ends: After the mower docks again, the signals turn off.
Want to understand the flashing green LED specifically? See: What does a flashing green light on the charging station mean?
Benefits of ECO mode
- Lower energy use: Signals don’t run when they aren’t needed.
- Less interference: Reduces the chance of signal-related disturbance to other electronics nearby.
When to use (and not use) ECO mode
Use ECO mode if you:
- Want to reduce energy consumption between mowing sessions.
- Experience interference with nearby devices.
- Park the mower for longer periods (e.g., overnight, holiday home, seasonal pauses).
Consider leaving ECO mode off if you:
- Frequently start mowing manually from the charging station or a secondary area and don’t want to take the step to reactivate the loop signal first.
How to enable or disable ECO mode
From the Automower® Connect app
- Open the app.
- Go to More › Settings › Operation.
- Toggle ECO mode On/Off.
From the mower display (models with keypad)
- Open the hatch and go to Settings.
- Select ECO mode.
- Press OK to enable or disable.
Manual mowing while ECO mode is on
If you need to start mowing manually (for example, in a secondary area) and ECO mode is active, you’ll first need to reactivate the loop signal, otherwise the mower won’t start as expected.
See step‑by‑step instructions: How to reactivate the loop signal when ECO mode is on.
ECO mode FAQs
- Does ECO mode affect charging? No. The mower charges normally while docked. ECO mode only turns off the loop and station signals, not charging.
- Will ECO mode change my schedule or mowing performance? No. Schedules and mowing performance are unchanged. Signals turn on automatically at the scheduled start.
- Does ECO mode affect alarms or Automower® Connect? No. Security features and app connectivity are not disabled by the loop signal being off.
- Can I see that ECO mode is on without looking at the app? Yes, the charging station LED flashes green when the mower is parked and ECO mode is active.
