How to connect your Automower® robotic lawn mower to Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to monitor and control Automower® remotely via the Automower® Connect app. For Wi-Fi-only models, it is essential for EPOS® wire free navigation (via the Husqvarna Cloud) and firmware updates. This guide explains requirements, setup steps and best practices.

Wi-Fi requirements by installation type

When is Wi-Fi required

EPOS® installations via Husqvarna Cloud

  • Wi-Fi-only mowers: Require continuous Wi-Fi coverage across the entire work area to receive satellite correction data for navigation. Without Wi-Fi, these mowers cannot operate. Models equipped with AI vision technology switch to camera-guided navigation, continuing for up to 50 metres before stopping if Wi-Fi signal is not recovered.
  • Mowers with Wi-Fi + mobile: Can switch to mobile network if Wi-Fi is unavailable, ensuring continuous operation.

EPOS® installations with reference station

  • Wi-Fi is not required for mowing or navigation
  • Wi-Fi enables remote control via the app when mower is within range

Boundary wire installations

  • Wi-Fi is not required for mowing or navigation
  • Wi-Fi enables remote control via the app when mower is within range

Network requirements

Network requirements

  • Frequency band: 2.4 GHz only. 5 GHz networks are not supported. Most modern routers broadcast both frequencies, but in some cases 2.4 GHz needs to be activated separately in the router settings.
  • Network visibility: SSID must be visible (not hidden)
  • Signal strength: Strong Wi-Fi signal at the charging station (Wi-Fi-only models)
  • Coverage area: For EPOS® via Husqvarna Cloud, full lawn coverage (Wi-Fi-only models)

Network not appearing in the list?

Show troubleshooting steps

If your Wi-Fi network does not appear when trying to connect Automower® to the app, try the following steps in order:

  1. Restart your robotic lawn mower
  2. Restart the Automower® Connect app. iOS | Android
  3. Make sure that you are using the latest version of the Automower® Connect app. App Store | Google Play
  4. Make sure that your robotic lawn mower has the latest firmware installed.
  5. Try moving your robotic lawn mower closer to the router and attempt to connect again.
  6. Verify that the 2.4 GHz frequency is activated on your router. This setting is found in your router’s configuration interface. If you are unsure how to do this, refer to the operator’s manual for your router or contact your internet service provider for assistance.

What happens when Wi-Fi connection is lost?

EPOS® installations via Husqvarna Cloud

  • Wi-Fi-only models: Stop mowing, search for signal, and display error message if connection is not recovered. Lose remote access via the app. Models equipped with AI vision technology switch to camera-guided navigation, continuing for up to 50 metres before stopping if Wi-Fi signal is not recovered.
  • Wi-Fi + mobile models: Switch to mobile network and continue operating.

EPOS® installations with reference station

  • Wi-Fi-only models: Continue mowing according to schedule, but no remote access via the app
  • Wi-Fi + mobile models: Continue mowing, switch to mobile for remote access

Boundary wire installations

  • Wi-Fi-only models: Continue mowing according to schedule, but no remote access via the app
  • Wi-Fi + mobile models: Continue mowing, switch to mobile for remote access

Firmware updates (FOTA) and Wi-Fi requirements

FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) enables automatic firmware updates for Automower® to receive the latest features, improvements, and bug fixes.

Wi-Fi requirements for FOTA updates

  • Wi-Fi-only models: Must have strong Wi-Fi signal at the charging station. Updates cannot be installed without Wi-Fi connection.
  • Wi-Fi + mobile models: Can receive updates via mobile network if Wi-Fi is unavailable at the charging station.

When FOTA updates occur

  • Updates are downloaded when the mower is parked at the charging station
  • You will receive notifications in the Automower® Connect app about available and installed updates

Important: For Wi-Fi-only models, ensure consistent Wi-Fi coverage at the charging station location to receive firmware updates.
