Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor — installation guide

With Husqvarna Fleet Services™ you can attach Husqvarna Fleet machine sensors to any piece of equipment to keep track of its use and last known position. There is no need for the product itself to be connected. The data is stored in the machine sensor’s built-in memory and is transmitted via Bluetooth to either the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ Gateway or the gateway app when the machines are returned to storage.

Installation

Activating a Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor

  1. Unscrew the machine sensor enclosure cover using the maintenance tool to access the battery compartment.
  2. Insert a new battery. The LED indicates that it is waiting to be configured with three short blinks per second.
  3. Start the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ mobile or gateway app.
  4. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on and that your device has a reliable Internet connection.
  5. The app will automatically connect the machine sensor to the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ cloud and set it up with the correct date and time. When connected, the LED will show two short blinks every second, indicating ongoing configuration.
  6. Wait for the machine sensor to start blinking every five seconds, indicating a successful activation.

When the machine sensor is activated, it is ready to be paired and installed on a machine.

Pairing a Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor to a specific machine

The Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor must be paired to a specific machine to make the data traceable. Pairing is done in the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ mobile app.

  1. Make sure your mobile device has an internet connection.
  2. Open the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ app on your mobile device.
  3. Select Inventory.
  4. Select the machine that is to be used with the machine sensor. (If the machine is not yet added to Husqvarna Fleet Services™, you need to do so first, either using the mobile app or the web portal.)
  5. Select Install sensor > Scan QR code > Approve.
  6. Scan the QR code on the sensor circuit using the camera on your mobile device. Make sure that there is enough light for the camera to be able to capture the code. When the code is captured, the app will automatically add the sensor to the selected machine.

The data collected by the machine sensor will now be linked to the selected machine. When the machine sensor is activated and paired, it is ready to be installed on a machine.

Finding a position for the Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor

Note: Do not install the machine sensor in a position where it prevents the product from operating correctly.

Note: For battery-operated products, the LED indicator on the sensor circuit must flash when the product operates on both types of throttle engagement.

  1. Make sure that the machine sensor is activated and paired (see above).
  2. Start the machine and hold the machine sensor near the product to find the electromagnetic field. Make sure that you do not cover the antenna with your hand since this will weaken the signal.
    • For petrol products, the machine sensor will blink once for every ignition spark detected.
    • For electric products, the machine sensor will give a solid light.

  1. Check the signal strength by moving the machine sensor around and observing the LED.
  2. When you find a good position, the machine sensor will blink once a second.
  3. Check that there is sufficient space to install the sensor bottom cover on the product. If necessary, use a pair of pliers to remove the outer holes on the sensor bottom cover.

General positioning guidelines

  • Consider the position of the machine sensor so it does not disturb the handling of the machine when working.
  • On a petrol machine, it is best to place the machine sensor in such a way that it can detect the electric current going through the thick cables to the spark plug.
  • On an electric machine, you may find several spots for good sensor readings.
  • On an electric machine, make sure that you get a good signal with both full clutch engage and low clutch engage.

Attaching a Husqvarna Fleet machine sensor to a machine

The machine sensor can be attached to the machine using pop rivets and two-sided adhesive tape, or two-sided adhesive tape only. It is recommended to use both pop rivets and two-sided adhesive tape. When the machine sensor is attached to the machine, it is ready to track machine usage and position.

Pop rivets

  1. Clean the surface where you want to place the machine sensor.
  2. Attach the provided two-sided adhesive tape at the back of the sensor bottom cover.

  1. Position the sensor bottom cover on a flat and clean surface on the machine.
  2. Drill 2 holes of 4 mm (0.2 in.) in diameter through the mounting ears of the sensor bottom cover and into the machine surface. These holes are for the pop rivets.
    • To avoid damaging internal parts, you may need to dismantle the machine before drilling.
    • Even if you are confident that there is free space behind the surface, use a drill stop to prevent drilling too deep.
  3. Insert the 2 rivets into the 2 holes and install them with a rivet gun. Alternatively, remove the ears along with the markers and put the rivets inside and behind the machine sensor.

  1. Place the sensor circuit with the foam gasket into the sensor bottom cover. Align the white mark on the sensor with the mark on the sensor bottom cover.

  1. Use the point of the maintenance tool to carefully push the foam gasket into position in the sensor bottom cover. Do not push the centre of the sensor circuit.
  2. Attach the sensor top cover onto the sensor bottom cover by turning it clockwise with the maintenance tool.

Two-sided adhesive tape

  1. Clean the surface where you want to place the machine sensor.
  2. Attach the provided two-sided adhesive tape at the back of the sensor bottom cover.
  3. Position the sensor bottom cover on a flat and clean surface on the machine.
  4. Place the sensor circuit with the foam gasket into the sensor bottom cover. Align the white mark on the sensor with the mark on the sensor bottom cover.
  5. Use the point of the maintenance tool to carefully push the foam gasket into position in the sensor bottom cover. Do not push the centre of the sensor circuit.
  6. Attach the sensor top cover onto the sensor bottom cover by turning it clockwise with the maintenance tool.

Naming your machine

When the machine sensor and your machine are all set up, we recommend giving your machine a name by which you can easily identify it in Husqvarna Fleet Services™ and adding a sticker to the machine with the name clearly stated.

Before you put the sticker on the machine, clean the surface. Use a water-resistant pen.

Operation

LED indicator of the machine sensor

Use the table below to understand what the LED on the sensor circuit indicates.

LEDMeaning
LED on for 1 secondThe machine sensor is restarting before it connects to the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ app or the Husqvarna Fleet Gateway app.
LED flashes 2 times each secondThe machine sensor is connected to the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ app or the Husqvarna Fleet Gateway app.
LED flashes 1 time each 5 secondsThe machine sensor is enabled and has uploaded all available data.
LED flashes 2 times each 5 secondsThe machine sensor is enabled and is uploading data.
LED flashes 1 time each secondThe sensor has found an electromagnetic field from a battery-operated product or electric component.
LED flashes regularly (rate changes with engine speed)The sensor is detecting the speed of a petrol-operated product.
LED on for 1 second, then off, then on againFirmware update in progress.
LED on for 1 second, off for 5 seconds, then on againThe sensor has found the engine/motor of the product and the configuration is set.
LED flashes 3 times each 3 secondsThe internal clock is not set. The machine sensor is not collecting data. Hold your mobile device with the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ app near the sensor to update the time.

How the machine sensor works

  • The machine sensor connects automatically to the Husqvarna Fleet Services™ gateway or the Husqvarna Fleet gateway app via Bluetooth.
  • The gateway and the gateway app automatically collects data from the machine sensor.
  • Once your machine has been switched off, it may take some time before the uploaded data is visible in Fleet Services.
  • The machine sensor can store data for a maximum of 3 weeks of operation time.
  • Husqvarna recommends uploading data at least once a week for products that are in regular operation.

Maintenance
