HUSQVARNA 440 e-series
not bad for the price
my dad has the same problem starting this saw as everyone else seems to have, but i don't have that problem at all. you cant just go ripping on the pull start like with older style saws, you have to tug it a little until you feel the cord catch, then yank on it with a second or two between each pull or it will flood. then its like any other saw, if you have the choke on it will fire once and then you turn off the choke and it will usually start by the tenth rip when the engine is cold, once its warm it fires up pretty easy. the other thing is, and your not supposed to do this anyway, but you CAN NOT drop start this saw. it will only start if you have it on the ground with your foot on the handle, like your supposed to do it. a lot of home owners drop start saws because its generally easier on the arms, or they don't know what their doing. but this saw does not work with that method. i don't know if its designed that way or if its totally unintended, but either way it will only start if its sitting on the ground. other then that, any cons with this saw can sort of be expected from a home owner model, if you want true performance you usually have to go up to logging models. other then the bar and chain oil pouring out of the reservoir after the saws been used, i don't have a lot of problems that cant be attributed to the ethinol treated gas (or poo-gas as i call it) thats being forced on us. but the first 440 i bought and exchanged for this one didnt leak oil. i didnt even want to exchange it, the home depot just seemed to rather do that then fix the 20 dollar part that broke in the pull start (probably from being incorrectly ripped on by a frustrated old man)

I read the instructions like it appears most with starting problems didn't! Starts easy. Mine doesn't leak oil. I have cut 3 cords of tamarack in 3 days and still sharp. I also have the 455 Rancher and I think it is close in how fast I can saw wood. The fuel efficiency seems better than the 455 too. Also like 3 pounds lighter. There might be a problem with the roller tip, it gets sawdust or pitch jammed in and I have had to take the bar out to free up the chain twice. I like the bar clamp and side chain tensioner that require no tools. I like being able to set the idle fast by moving the choke lever on then off.

Very hard to pull. I'm 6'3" and 350 so it isn't me. My boy is 6' 1" and 220 and it won't fire. Needs a decomp button. Just won't start. Tried with the trigger tied on and the choke on. Trigger off and choke off. Just the choke. No go. It's a refurb so it must have run at the factory but not now. Back it goes.

Will not crank
I had a Husqvarna chainsaw that lasted me 20 years. I bought this one last week. The thing wears you out trying to crank it. My other one had the decompression button and always cranked with ease. This one wears me out trying to crank it and the pull cord is very rough. I'm very disappointed in this chainsaw. It is going back to Lowe's.

Although my saw has not received a lot of use this far, I am happy with it's performance.

Great product, eventually.
After returning the chainsaw to the retailer to properly remove shipping spacers. And check chain brake mechanism, the unit starts great and runs reliably. It's weight and balance is good.

My third Husqvarna chainsaw
I bought the 440 and talk about starting hard! So I took it back and exchanged it for another 440 and the same thing. The saw needs a decompression valve. I thought it was me, but I see others here are having the same problem.

Used for 2 months, nothing but problems
Accidentally ran over my Stihl saw while skidding logs with my tractor. Went to Lowes and purchased Husqvarna 450 Rancher. Ran great for 2 month, Oct/Nov 2012. Then stored away. Bought new bar and chains for it. Couldn't get it started. Finally got it started, cut 1 log and it stalled out. Got it started and chain won't turn. Took saw apart without side cover/tensioner on chain turns fine. Once side cover is on, chain will not turn. Removed the chain brake system. Chain still will not move. What a piece of junk. Real waste of money, wish I could get my money back. Do not buy this product if you rely on wood for heat, you and your family will freeze to death.
