HUSQVARNA 440 e-series
Good saw for the price
I was looking for a saw under $300. I chose this one because it had a lot more power over it's top competitor's similar priced model. I think this is a good saw for homeowner and farm use. My dad has used many saws over the years while working for the city tree service. He liked mine so much that he's going to buy one now. My neighbor owns the other top brand and he's impressed with this saw as well.

Great Saw HORRIBLE Owner's Manual
The Manual is horrible! The diagrams are so tiny and all in the front of the book; you have to constantly flip between the instructions and the diagrams. try doing that with one hand while trying to hold parts with the other.
Only used it twice, went to clean it, and now I can't get the clutch cover back on. It doesn't seem to seat completely or level (rocks), and won't tighten the chain. I think there's a pin broken on the chain adjustment block; of course I'm not sure about that because there is no exploded parts diagram anywhere in the manual or online.

Don't not buy this brand of Chainsaw
Purchase the Husqvarna (replacing a Homelite 16 years old, great chainsaw) based on a recommendation from a friend. Cost $229.99 model 440 series didn't use for 2 years, kept it in the original box and packaging in my heated garage. Finally get a chance to use it, followed all the instructions and it wont start. Brand new and it wont start. Oh did i telly you that I was a firefighter for 20 years and started and cleaned many of chainsaw in my life. So now I have a chain saw that wont start. I bring it to the place I purchased the chainsaw and they could get it to work. I bring it to my father and law and after 3 hours of messing about, it started. Now most of my day is shot so I waited to cut the next day. Once again it won't start. Should I be upset, you bet I am! Messed around with it for another 3 hours. Still wont start. Every person that I have talked to about this brand of chainsaw states, " Yes there's an issue with their chainsaws. They don't start well and if they flood you have to let them sit. This is a horrible product. I cannot return it so it's in the trash and I'm out $299.99 and I have no recourse. If you are looking for a chain saw I would not recommend this brand.

Great saw. Easy to start and eats up the wood. I am using the husqvarna premix gas/oil fuels and it burns well. No smoking at all.

This product is no good
Purchased product. Had to return to retailer because it would not start, Retailer could not start product.
Product was replaced. Have now used product. Over a period of 3 hours during an afternoon, spent 1 hour trying to start product. Two separate saws but the same problem. You have a problem with your saw. It is the most difficult 2 cycle engine I have used. Will not recommend your product. It is worthless.

Husqvarna 440 & Husqvarna 55 Rancher
Have had the larger saw for several years, used to keep our firewood supply pleantiful. We bought the smaller one to use for trimming branches and cutting smaller diameter wood as well as my more advanced age. Really pleased with both of them.

Great saw, please read for help on starting
Hello everyone, I hope this review is helpful... I have had my 440 For a while now and have definitely put it through the paces at the ranch. I have seen peoples problems with the starting mechanism... my response to this is; have you read the instructions? The instructions state that in order to start the saw you must prime it and pull the pull string 5 times to disengage the starting mechanism.... After you disengage this, the saw will start like every other saw. You have to give light pulls not hard thrusts. After the saw has warmed up and has been used a while it gets easier to start... I have found that if you put the saw on the ground and you depress the throttle with your boot, it starts easier cold.
My pros for this saw outweigh the cons by a lot.
Pros: I love the weight of the saw, it is extremly easy to handle and is controllable in strange situations with weird logs. It is amazing of how little fuel it takes to run this saw, I worked a 9 hour day on the ranch using the saw the whole time and I only had to refuel once, but i had to add bar oil about twice.
the only con that I have is the fact that It can only accept a 18 Inch bar. I also wish that the starting mechanism was not there, when you need the saw in a hurry, the mechanism get in your way!.
Other than that it is an overall great saw and I would suggest it over many other saws for medium use.

My fifth husky, and the last
I've owned husky chainsaws for twenty years and alway's had good luck with them. Bought the 440e for clearing brush on my farm. It would crank easy and cut well for about 15 minutes or so. Then it would bogg down and stall. Couldn't get it to crank for love nor money. Very frustrating. Took it back to the shop and they couldn't duplicate problem (because they didn't run it long enough I suspect) Anyway, I don't have time for this.
