I'm Okay With It...
By Tom H.

About Me Do-It-Yourself
This is first case I have ever purchased for my chainsaws so I really have nothing else to compare it too. With that said I fine the case to be okay. I have had it for about 9 years and use it regularly and so far it has not failed me. I can store a bottle oil, spare sparks plugs ,files and other equipment within the box with the saw. The only complaint is the the elastic cords on the lid to hold the manuals and/or papers have stretched over the years and are not worthless. I have installed velcro straps in place of the elastic cords for less than $1 and they work great to hold a copy of the manual with the saw. I would buy it again unless I find something better..
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Not what I expected
from Fort Wayne
This carrying case is very cheap. The hinges and latch are very poorly designed. The blade cover does little to protect the bar from bending and (when properly installed) the Husquvarna logo is upside down. Im a huge fan of Husqvarna so it makes me unhappy to write about the poor quality of this case.

In need of a durable latch
Comments about Husqvarna Powerbox™ Chainsaw Carrying Case:
Please don't misunderstand, I like my Powerbox very much. I just wish the latches were more durable. The little black plastic latches on the lid are very light for the job they are supposed to do.One of mine broke a short time after I bought my saw and I didn't call right away for a replacement like I should have, which I admit is my fault. When I did call, the customer service gal was very helpful, but I can't see paying $7.99 for shipping for the broken $.95 latch. She was very nice and offered me discount shipping of $4.99, but I still can't bring myself to pay that much for shipping of a poorly designed part that probably cost around $.25 to make in the first place. In the mean time I will try to acquire one from a dealer or someone else who has a box with a broken latch, I'm sure there are quite a few.

great product but mine arrived with broken latch
Overall an awesome carrier for my xp550 however when it arrived the black latch was broken and I have been unable to get a replacement part for that despite multiple attempts to contact Husqvarna. Any help with getting a new latch would be greatly appreciated.
Merchant response: I certainly apologize for any problems you have had with the PowerBox. The best way to get the latch is through your Husqvarna dealer. If it arrived broken, he should replace it for you at no charge. The part number I found for the latch is 531 30 05-61. However I think this is the front latch.

Back to the drawing board!
I got this case with my 455R chainsaw, and was disappointed from day one. Thankfully it was a free promotional, so I am not out any money. The box is decent, at best. Don't get me wrong, I love Husqvarna equipment, and have 2 chainsaws, lawn tractor, trimmer, etc., but am also an honest man and cannot give this a good review. The box is not all bad. It does have a well for the scrench, plugs, etc., which is nice, but so do many molded cases. Being box shaped, it is easy to stack and less awkward to store, but transporting it is extremely awkward and cumbersome! The scabbard comes off with the saw, which is good and bad. Nice to have a chain cover by itself, but can be odd to line up into the box, especially with leather gloves on.Now for the bad. The hinges are nothing more than finger hinges molded in and held together with plastic rods. I do like the fact that the rods are protected from being driven out when the box is closed and locked, but the whole box just screams cheap. There is a very shallow well to hold some premix and bar oil, just deep enough to promote putting a bottle in there, but shallow enough to guarantee the bottles tipping over at the slightest angle. Once you simply pick the case up, the bottle is all but guaranteed to flop over possibly causing a mess. This could be remedied by a couple of simple bunjee cords like what are found on the top lid. I would also like to see a place to store a wedge, and some reinforcement in the lock tab. It also would be a great idea to put some padded straps on the case so that it could be carried backpack style. This would greatly increase the carry comfort and distance of the saw. Lastly, the scabbard does not offer any side impact protection to the bar, unlike a clamshell 2-piece case would. A decent hit to the side during saw transport would likely result in a bent bar.I can see the marketability of this case, but what might have started out as a universal case has become a cheap case, in my opinion. I wish my 455R came with a blow plastic molded case, but since it did not, this will have to do. Please redesign a decent case for this remarkable saw!

Massachusetts recommends the Powerbox Carrying Case
I wish it came with the saw but absolutely necessary to have.A great way to organize all the items you need with your saw, such as oil, files extra chain and maybe a rag or two.

Good Saw Case
At first I thought that this case was kind of funky looking - I was used to the 'molded shape' cases and this looked bulky. But when I placed them both in a corner and measured them, this one actually takes up less 'cube space' (height, width, depth) than the other style. Plus, you can stack them with other things in your truck, trailer, garage, etc.Inside there is plenty of extra room for a quart of bar oil, 2-cycle oil, gloves, wedges, extra chains, files, rags, etc. You can store this stuff all together in one place. You can cut the plastic scabbard down, or use it with your existing scabbard, if you have a shorter bar and want to take up less space. This blow molded case is much lighter than anything I could make out of wood, and has held up well to normal use. I lined the bottom with an oil absorbent pad to keep things clean. I would definitely buy another one for another saw. This design works well for those with multiple saws as they can stack together easily.
