Before purchasing a MZ61 I shopped the whole market. It appeared to be the best built out there for the money. I am 100% satisfied with it. I had mowed for 35 years with a homemade tractor that is on it's last leg! This thing will knock My 1 & 1/2 acres down in a 1/3 the time it took before. I did have a problem though. At about 10 hours on it I backed it out and engaged the deck. "BLAM !" Now what ?? The belt jumped off the deck idler pulley and caught under it between it and the arm. Needless to say it lunched the belt. I was a service tech on mowers & tractors for a major retailer for 30+ years so it was no surprise when the dealer said "nothing I can do, IS NO warranty on belts." I could have made a fool of myself like I had a bunch of customers do over the years and jump up & down and scream but being in retail I know that the rules are the rules! So I bit the bullet and replaced the belt out of pocket. Is frayed but usable so I'm keeping the damaged one for a "Just In Case !" Here is my conclusion why it happened. Lower the deck before you engage it. The clutch comes in hard & fast. If the belt whips a little the angle from the engine pulley to the idler can cause it jump off. The spinning wheel complaint I see a lot of on here. They all do it! Ask people who have the ones that "Hop on the Grass. Or mark with a "X". And even the ones unfortunate enough to be painted green & yellow!! THEY ALL DO IT !! WHY ?? No. 1 - the turf tires! Is no grip in them. Put big lug tires on and a zero turn would really tear up your yard. No. - 2, the big one! RIGID FRAME! They all have it!! I suppose the "bean counters" squash this idea, but a horizontal pivoting front axle would maintain evener pressure on the rear wheels and eliminate a lot of wheel spin on even slightly uneven ground. Just my thoughts after working on these things for 30 years.Bottom line ?? Is the best buy out there for the money. That deck is built like the gun turret on a tank!!! Is grease fittings where they should be. Have a friend with a X----- that has to replace blade spindle bearings every year or so.

I have only had my mower for two mowing seasons. I have downsized my land holdings to 30 acres. I bought the 60 inch mower to replace my Ford 8n tractor with 60 inch finish mower and ended up also using it to replace my 42 inch Poulan riding mower. I am surprised that I can mow my fairly uneven 3 acre yard with no scalping at a setting of 3.25 inches on this 60 inch deck. I have mowed perhaps 80 hours. I am looking for a mower to reduce effort mowing my summer home so have looked at reviews here and on the 54 inch models. I am wondering what percentage of owners have any problem or any significant problem. I am not going to give a glowing review just make a couple points. When I went to purchase my mower at Sutherlands lumber, they could not get it started. After working on it for an hour, success. Of course I should have just walked away but I figured I could fix whatever the problem might be. The first mowing season, starting was iffy. Finally I could start it reliably by moving the parking brake off and on. I could go on but cutting to the end, the mower finally died while mowing so now I could find the problem. Took it in to my favorite repair place and the technician found a loose connection and corrosion in the connection. Fixed for their minimum charge. Major problem, no. Been working fine since then. One item I see on the 54 inch reviews is a problem with short blade life. I mow the entire place two to three times per year depending on rainfall, with cattle pasturing helping with the mowing. This year lots of rain so much more mowing on some of it. Just went out to check the blades and they look close to new, some wear of course but that is to be expected. I see comments everywhere about tire traction. Does this mower have the traction of my Poulan 42 inch, no. Keep in mind it weighs nearly 800 pounds. I can pick each end of the Poulan up. So quite a difference. Do I notice the traction, of course. I have rough land sort of like the Ozarks. I have to be careful to mow up and down hills not sideways. I have thought about purchase of different tires but not enough of a problem to spend the money. So be careful. Some comments about the deck clogging. Now my plastic chute broke off almost immediately. Greatest thing that happened. The deck now throws the grass a long way. I have had no clogging issues on wet or dry grass. Sometimes I am mowing 12 to 18 inch tall grass. I live in a rural area so am not concerned about hitting something with flying rocks or sticks. But no one should operate the mower without the safety chute in areas where people or property could be damaged. Comments also about the steering tracking off, could be on the 54 inch, don't recall. Naturally, it will only track on a very flat surface. I tried it tonight and it is real close if not straight, so I have no problem there. Going down the gravel driveway, or gravel road, of course it is all over the place. So far no problems with poor welds or tensioning springs. It works for me. I do wonder what percentage of folks have a problem or problems. Probably no better or worse than other similar mowers. I am thinking I will go with this mower for my summer home rather than the 54 inch, I think it is more robust, more rugged. Also, I like the higher deck height settings on this mower compared to the 54 inch, lots of rock at the summer home in the Ozarks. This deck has a top setting of 4.5 inches but it will mow in the park setting which is a little higher yet. I also like the foot operated height adjustment, could not be easier. I bought it assembled. Hope that helps.

I bought this to replace an older riding mower, GT2254, I mower 3 acres. The larger cut, faster speed and wide tires are some of the Pros for this mower. For the Cons no fuel gauge, deck can't keep up will not discharge you must dig it out.
I would buy this again

Customer service is terrible. Mower had 40 hours and a ridiculous amount of broken and wore out parts. Who makes left hand rotation based with right hand bolts?

Comments about Husqvarna MZ61:
After years of mowing with much cheaper brands of big box retail lawn mowers I decided it was time to purchase a mower I could use for many more years to come. In selecting this mower I'm not sure that I accomplished that feat. From the start the mower has not performed as I would have expected. I have owned this mower for just over two full years and the factory warranty has just ran out. In the first year I had the mower at the authorized dealer twice to address issues such as: The mower would never turn left on a zero turn radius unless slowing down to almost a complete stop. It would instead take a wide arching turn. I was told this was an adjustment that could easily be made, well two plus year of owning the mower and four total trips to the shop and it still has the same issue. At the end of the second mowing season the mower started having to be jumped off to start. I charged the battery and even put a new one in and it still would have to be jumped off in a few weeks. I had the shop look at the mower and after two trips they determined that it was a bad voltage regulator, they also had to replace something int he left hydraulic tank as it started leaking all the fluid all over the floor. There was one more thing that they had to replace and I can't remember what it was at the moment. Either way by this time I have taken the mower to the shop in two years of ownership a total of 5 times and I have had it. I purchased a back pack blower at the same time which has ran great and I really wanted to purchase a chain saw but based on the issues with my mower I have reluctancy. I really wanted a mower I could just jump on and mow without any issues and as much as I have put in this mower I should have that. Well, I do not. One more issue and I will be switching mowers and brands for sure.

terrible reliability and workmanship
New it was a nice mower. 1 & 1/2 hours the steering linkage vibrated loose and had a terrible time getting it readjusted. 3 hours machine didn't turn well right or left. No one had greased either front wheel or pivot bearings. 6 1/2 hours the right side deck supports vibrated loose and terribly scalped one side of my yard. fast forward to 140 hours and the engine develops a terrible knock and begins using oil. the right cylinder is weak and burning oil. my dealer says the engine will have to be replaced and that the full cost of the engine and labor will be on me. not at all satisfied with the reliability or the thought of paying nearly half the price of a new mower for the engine replacement.

Wanted to follow-up with a review after 3 mowing seasons and starting my 4th season. So far, this mower has been well worth the money. A few issues that kept me from rating this a firewall 5. When I first bought the mower the throttle cable would diconnect from the lever; an issue that I noticed in another review. Simple fix with a new locknut and lockwasher. It is a little underpowered compared to some other brands of z-turns I have used with equal or less HP ratings. It's only noticebale in taller/thicker grass but still bogs a little. When I mow weekly in dry grass it performs great. Another issue I have is the placement of blade engage switch. On several occasions my elbow has inadvertently cut the switch off. Seat placement or lever placement could probably be adjusted to compensate but I think a different location for the switch would be better. Also, the oil drain makes it difficult to drain all of the oil without elevating the front of the machine. The last con is that the mower has a tendancy to spin the tires. Don't know if it's a weight ratio issue or poor tire design but I have to be carefule in tight turns to not dig up the grass which was the whole point of buying a z-turn.The good is that dollar for dollar, this is probably one of the best values on the market. Even with the cons I mentioned this machine has been one of my best purchases. After changing the blades back to OEM blades, it cuts my yard beautifully. It has always started without issue and I love the durability of the deck. The hydro system is commercial grade which gives me confidence that it will last. It's very comfortable to operate and iIenjoy mowing my yard every time.
