First off I must say this is a great tractor. I read the other reviews where a few others were having issues with uncut strips of grass. You have to level your mowing deck. Just about any new mower you buy, you have to level the mowing deck. Some dealers may get them close, some don't even bother they just put them together. I'm one of those that prefers to level my own...to my preference. After getting mine home and leveling the deck and tweeking a few other things, because I'm very picky, this machine performed very well. Another issue I read in another review was not being able to turn tightly with the diff-lock turned on. That's actually quite normal. This isn't my first garden tractor and I own a 55 hp utility tractor and have operated many even up to a 105 hp utility tractor, so if you don't understand how a diff-lock works, Google it and learn how they work. Then you'll understand why they don't steer easily. All in all, I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. This is a great machine and has well exceeded my expectations. If you have several acres of mowing with slopes and inclines, and even light garden work or snow removal, then I highly recommend this tractor.

Every pass leaves behind a line of cut grass out the none discharge side of the deck and there is no mulching kit available.

Fantastic tractor! Gets the job done!
from Raleigh, NC
We love our GT54LS! It really gets the yard work done in no time, with minimal effort required. The locking differential is a great feature in the hilly/steep spots in our yard. My other 1/2 enjoys it also, maybe more than I do! It only takes 30-45 minutes to mow our 2 acre lawn, which is at least 1/2 as long as it took with the old MTD Gold 2042, thanks to the big turf tires, locking diff, and the tight turning radius on this one. The V-Twin Briggs fires right up and purrs like a kitten with plenty of power, even if we let the grass go for a week or so, it doesn't matter, it blazes right through! Looking to put a snowblower on it soon for winter, so we don't have to pay for a plow contract. This tractor pulls our grader with ease up & down our 6% grade 400' gravel driveway when the spring rains create washed out spots. We chose the GT54LS for these 3 main reasons, and also wanted an actual heavy duty small tractor with the most options available for the least amount price-wise.

My husband and I purchased this mower this past summer as our first NEW mower. We have had several used mowers before ranging from older wheel horses,JD,.. etc and this one out performs them all by a mile. My father in law bought the older model about 5 years ago and has over 100 hours on his. We have about 15 hours on ours now and have no issues what so ever with the mower. For everyone saying they are having an issue with the deck missing in spots, the deck needs to be adjusted. We adjusted ours the first day we got it. And obviously, having a locking rear differential will make it turn hard when it is on. Typical for anything with a locking diff. It's common sense. We love this and all of our Husqvarna products!

This is the ultimate machine for the serious landowner that has over 2 acres of lawn to mow, and grounds to take care of. The locking differential makes all the difference on hilly terrain where other mowers would sit and spin the tires. I have yet to get stuck with this 650 Lb beast, even when mowing through uncut areas, or blazing new walking paths in the outlying meadows, it bulldozes right through. The cruise control, and electric pto are great features too! The automatic choke feature means no failed, or flooded engine. Just turn the key, and go! Worry free mowing, and yard/garden chores with this one! Cannot wait to hook up the snowblower attatchments for winter!

Since purchasing this machine, it has been a joy to operate, and my fiancé loves it too! The mower cuts perfect with no "strips" of uncut grass as others have mentioned. I believe that others are having issues due to improper deck adjustments. The tractor has done everything asked of it and then some. The locking differential has come in handy on our sloped lawn and goes up the steeper areas with no effort. The tractor just bulldozes right through the tall grass like it's not even there when the mower is running. The only minor issue is that the 24 HP Briggs could use abit more oomph when engaging the pto switch, as there is a direct instant on with no control of tension on the belt so it bogs abit for the first couple seconds, but is fine after that. The maneuverability is comparable to a higher priced zero turn mower. I can mow my lawn faster than my neighbors 4 wheel steering JD. The 54" deck is not a problem, and can get into even the tight areas on our property.Overall, a great tractor for the price you pay. The quality and ease of operation/ maintenance is great too! If you get this beast, you won't be sorry! Highly recommended for the serious landscaper!

Good tractor for the money. I do think the 24 Hp is a little underpowered for a 54 inch deck. I have an older model with a 27 hp/54" deck and the extra power is noticeable. As for durability the tractor is very solid. The locking differential works great. I really like the fuel reserve switch. The rapid release blades are a bit hard to find and are quite costly compared to regular blades. Would I buy again? Probably.

Good so far - one season done.
I just finished my first season with my first garden tractor, so unfortunately I have nothing to compare this tractor against. I purchased it mainly for the limited slip, as part of our 3 acre lawn is on an incline and shaded, so traction is poor. This tractor handles it well. As others have mentioned, it turns better with the LS turned off, so I only turn it on when needed, though it periodically gets bumped on when I'm busting through tree branches, and I don't notice until I'm trying to make a full lock turn. To counter other reviews, it makes gradual turns fine, even with LS turned on. I purchased my tractor from a great local dealer (Jerry's here in Bend, OR), who happily took my credit card. I did not get a discount on the tractor, but they assembled it with the extra mulching kit, leveled the deck, and gave me a lesson on using it - well worth the paltry amount I could have saved buying it online. They have also been great with extra parts - the mulching kit has a right side cover that leaves a spring clip hanging about 1in out, so if you try to mow up to a chain link fence on the right side with the kit, you're asking for trouble - my experience ripped off the spring clip and broke the rubber strap. Luckily, Jerry's stock the piece, which is screwed in place rather than riveted, so repair was easy. I do not have any issue with an unmowed stripe; I only overlap 6" on my flat field, and get a very uniform cut. If I could change anything, I'd move the throttle and LS switch away from being above the steering wheel, as they get grabbed by branches. I'd also make the steering wheel more precisely center-able - it is canted at an angle when going straight, but is only adjustable in 30deg or so increments, so it will be canted one way or another. Faster would be nice; 5.5mph is plenty for mowing, but sure doesn't seem much when you're driving across the property. I'd change the mulch kit spring clip and also find a better way to latch the cover down - it creeps up in the back to leave a gap that blows clippings out. Lastly, I'd improve the seat engine kill switch to be less sensitive - my 100lb teen daughter mows the field, and around the edges you can hear the engine cutting out when she bounces over gopher mounds and holes (200lb me has no problems). The rubber nubby things on the speed pedal all fell off, so I replaced them with cap screws, which work but aren't as grippy as the rubber ones. I did not use the mower deck wash feature; I let it build up, then pulled the deck at the last mow and scraped it clean while I was cleaning the grass out of the rest of the chassis. Deck came off easy, and looks like I can reinstall it and not lose the leveling, though I will recheck this. I had planned on putting a snow blade on the unit, but was warned it can't push a bunch, so you have to plow in stages; 5" or so at a time. This, combined with the price of a blade, wheel weights, and chains made me change my mind and buy a snow thrower - this winter we'll see if I made the right choice:) That's about it, but in summary, from reading the other reviews it looks like the dealer you purchase the tractor from may make more difference in your satisfaction than the tractor you choose. Happy mowing - I'm going to go attach the leaf sweeper and do my fall cleanup:)

Read all the reviews on this site for this tractor, and I didn't have any of the problems mentioned. I am guessing that those reviewers did not read the owners manual witch tells you how to set up your tractor. even if your dealer set it up it is a good Idea to check it over. the large deck MUST be leveled out and the manual explains it very well. as for steering with the differential lock on, it is supposed to be turned off unless going uphill or on a loose surface, Its not meant to be turned on and left on, use it only when extra traction is needed. The deck wash works very well if used right after you finish mowing, don't let the clippings dry out before washing and use it per mftrs. instructions. I have had absolutely no problem with this tractor but I took the time to get educated about its use, capabilities and maint. Love this unit
