I bought this mower (April 2013) after reviewing several models online (Toro, Troy Built, Husqvarna's other models, and other lesser known and much cheaper brands) . There were several factors that led me to buy this specific mower. In order of importance, they were: Honda engine, Price, Reviews, Larger Rear Wheel - bumpy lawn -, Deck Height adjustment, Combined Mulcher/Bagger, Variable Speed in the self-propelled segment. I had some concerns after seeing negative posts but these were generally older and in some instances, garnered only 1 star after a less than comprehensive review. I attempted to weigh all the positive and negative together, taking the extremes out --good or bad with only one or two comments--. This is a pretty popular mower and you won't have trouble finding other reviews on it. Most of the negative came from reviews at Amazon - some of them even dealing with Amazon and its policies. However, having a manufacturer that stands by a product is fairly important and I found other models had more issues in this arena. I'm not including it in this review because I have not had to call for service; but then again, I shouldn't have to as the mower is brand new.Setup was simple - attached the handle, filled with oil, added gas and it started up on the second pull. The first pull wasn't a full pull but more of a half-pull to prime it.Honda engine. After a lot of reviews and recommendations from those in the lawn equipment business, I chose the HU700F for its Honda engine. Other brands were well spoken of and I've owned a B&S for years - the engine outliving the deck and other parts but I couldn't ignore the combination of features WITH the Honda engine. So I made that a priority. Of all the research, reviews and comments, the Honda engine always garnered positive remarks.PriceAffordable in the lower range of what I felt was in my budget #$300-$400 post-tax#. I would love to spend $450-$550 after tax, but my yard size doesn't require it and this particular model included everything I was looking for in a mower. I was able to buy it for $10 less than the web price.FunctionUsing the mower was easy. The variable speed handles work as advertised. At full compression, the mower is quite agile, moving quickly across my lawn and giving a nice even cut. The larger rear wheels make it easier to turn and provide a smoother experience despite my lawn's lumps. The wheel height adjustment allows you to make changes to the bed height in the grass and is important for those dry spells when you want your grass to provide its own shade. There are four heights you can set it to. It's also lighter than my prior Scotts mower and therefore easier to maneuver around shrubs, trees and turning 180 degrees. The Scotts was heavier and bounced around more - all 4 wheels of the same size.MulchingI will update/edit after using it strictly as a mulcher. But for now will say, for the first cut, it did not bog down, not once. I set the first cut height on the wheel levers to the 3rd of 4 positions which still required a significant cut. I've seen some web complaints about it bogging down but did not have it once "chug" or sputter, even in my thicker grass.BaggingThis was my first cut of the year - and I'll post/edit an update later for the mulching feature but for those that are looking now, I started by bagging the grass. The HU700F gets a thumbs up because #a# it throws the grass easily to the back of the bag and #b# it provides for a simple on/off and empty bagging option. This is by far one of the easiest baggers to come cleanly off its supports; flip it upside down and it empties with ease. You don't have to spend excess energy shaking the bag to empty the contents - something my prior Scotts bagger made brutally painful. It has a large, convenient handle that you grab to manipulate the bag frame and has a fabric handle on the back of the bag that you grab with your other hand. Easy. Other web posts complained of bag size. I found the bag size to be just fine; especially for younger mowers #15 year range and up# or ladies that don't have a lot of arm strength.Variable Speed/Self PropelWorked flawless. It's speedy for sure but you will quickly adapt and find the right handle pressure. I like the comfort grip - it's not just 2 bars you're squeezing together. The speed control has 2 independent speed levers, for the left and right hand each. Use one or both - the result is the same. I had ZERO issues with coming up against obstacles #trees, fence, etc..., releasing the speed control, and backing up the mower. The debris shield did NOT prevent me from reversing direction nor did it catch on the wheels. The hose attachment for bed cleaning is yet to be tested and not so important to me. The deck top does collect a TINY bit of grass but hey...do you really expect to mow the lawn and not have a shred of grass on your mower? :) The HU700F isn't any louder than my old Scotts mower but it is quieter than my Harley and purrs just the same.Overall I'm very pleased with the HU700F after its initial use. I'm actually looking forward to using it again and no longer dread the weekend mow.

Unfortunatley, I didn't even get a full season out of my HU700F, which I bought to replace a non-self-propelled Craftsman than lasted 10 years before finally shaking itself apart. When I purchased the Husky, I was initially impressed with the features offered (primarily the Honda motor) for the money. However, my initial excitement gave way to reservation following the first use, which made evident the extremely light-duty front wheel mounting setup, as well as the fragility of the plastic drive gears in the front wheels. This is not a lightweight mower, and any transfer of weight to the front wheels causes a good deal of flex in the mounting points. No exactly confidence-inspiring, especially if your yard is hilly and requires maneuvering around trees (like mine).Fast forward to today, when the front drive wheels locked completely on the first pass (on a non-hilly portion). I removed the cover from the belt drive assembly, and ascertained that the belt was tensioned correctly etc, making it clear that there is a malfunction in the drive unit itself. This after maybe 12 uses from new.I will say that the Honda motor has been nothing if not reliable and quiet, and that I very much appreciate the easy-start functioning that never requires more than a single pull, even after the mower has sat for a couple of weeks. As of this evening, the mower has been returned to place of purchase to be sent off for repair. I appreciate the warranty service, but I don't have much confidence in its long-term durability.

About Me Professional
Comments about HU700F:
I know my way around big and small engine machines. Serviced them for 35 years. This one should never have been produced. Here are only SOME of the issues. Front plastic wheels can crack easy and then the drive gear chews the geared wheel. When you fold it up the drive cable can get pinched (mid cable)and tears open. The bag is worthless, it allows dust to come out in the air and towards you. The grass in the bag seems to stay to one side only. The wheel adjusters can bend easy, especially the rear. The blade is not the best. Tried a gator blade instead and still had clumps of grass. It's hard to get use to having hand on throttle because if you go while turning or backing up the front wheels will tear up the grass. The underside of the deck was not completely painted orange and had lots of surface rust form. The trans drive box can get lots of grass built up inside. The side mulch door can be very difficult to lock shut. Even inside the air filter box gets grass/leaf debris rather quickly. Unless you read the check oil fine print, you probably don't know how to check the oil level with the dips tick. There is a strange way of doing it. Make sure you turn fuel line level off when not in use. The deck was gets only about 80% of it's job done. Very Heavy mower. Rear flap cover guard likes to go under the mower 50% of the time when pulling mower backwards which makes it difficult to pull. You have to lift up. The top surface seems to attract dust and makes it look very dirty. Difficult to get the mower at the right cutting level.(It's not as easy as you think). You can try to use the area between the pop up taps. It's even a gas hog as far as many past mowers I have had.(You will see). It should have had a no hassle 15 0r 30 day free return if not satisfied warranty. High Priced for what reason? Honda engine has a seperate warranty is NOT covered by Husqvarna warranty. That should give you an idea what your in for. The Hu700f, the f stands for FAILED.

About Me Do-It-Yourself
Have owned for 14 months and mow an acre weekly for most of the year. The Honda engine is fabulous for residential use-- super easy starting in all conditions and reliable. Needed to tighten wheel drive bolts after a month (front wheels were wobbling and wasn't getting full propulsion), and mulching door broke its latch. After repair/adjustment, no further issues besides normal maintenance and cleaning after use (I like the sprayer adapter). If it were the same price or as reliable, I might opt for a RWD or AWD model when this one wears out.

Not even 1 season's use...repaired & whoops 2nd season fail
Self propelled occasionally would best describe this piece of junk. Bought October 2015. Self propelled broke 2016. Fixed and self propelled broke spring 2017. Junk junk junk. Made for perfect Brady Bunch lawn I guess. 1 pebble and it ruins self propell.Also. Ergonomics good for people shorter than 6' I guess. Just a bit too short to save the back. Bag is too small. Change way too often. And the kicker...then started cord's nut fell off from vibration in first summer. Why would they use a lock nut type thing.
Cracked Deck Mount ......

Unfortunately, within a year of owning this mower, the mower deck also cracked and broke where the engine mount bolts go through the deck and into the engine. Tried returning to Store where purchased , was sent out for repairs but they refused to honor any of the warranties , and wanted me to pay for the replacement Housing/Deck saying it was my fault the deck cracked , but clearly this is a design flaw; something that Husqvarna should address. I would NOT recommend purchasing this lawnmower.

About Me Novice
Used this mower for 4 seasons now. Starts at the first try even now and cuts grass well. Side discharge is very useful during heavy growth periods. DIY maintenance so far - oil change and empty gas tanks every season. The front drive wheels treads all worn out fast (replacement wheels cost around $50 - a lot considering the cost of a new mower).

I use this mower everyday for my lawncare business. I bought it two years ago and it starts first pull and the stock blades are still in good shape. I use rotella T2 30w not 1 problem. The mower performs as it should. I am looking to buy another Husqvarna self propelled in the near future

I've used this mower for four years. Every week from April 1 to October 31, I use it hard for 3 hours per week. Up hills, on road fronts around property where nothing else wants to go. It has been awesome for me and I use it for as much exercise as utility. Mine has only suffered one broken grass chute (my fault) and starts on the first or second pull every time. I have worn down 4 blades since I've owned this mower! She ain't pretty, but works awesome. I even like the front wheel drive - no one else does...hmmmm...guess I don't use mine hard enough! A+ product!
Worse mower ever
from Whitefish, mt
horrible wheels, absolutely no power with this lawn mower want to be nor is the traction worth anything. blade bent when it hit a little bit of mud. Honestly what a worthless excuse for a mower and biggest waste of money. I was forced by the website to give it 1 star, it does not deserve even that
Good all around mower.

I use this mower to cut rough areas around our church. If you get in tall weedy grass the tall strands wrap around the drive Shaft and will prevent it from working until you shut down the mower and remove the built up grass on the axle /drive shaft.
OK. But could be better.

I have this lawn mower. Has a lot of power. My complaint is that the door chute didn't stay on. Door chute fell off and I accidently hit it with my lawn mower. Needs improvement!!!!
