I recently purchased this saw, as after moving to New York from California my firewood needs are drastically different. Took the saw out of the box, added bar oil and fuel. She started after two pulls. I easily felled and bucked up a 20" diameter red oak and a 14" diameter maple in 1/2 a day. Plenty of power and the saw cuts like a hot knife through soft butter. I'm really looking forward to using this saw the rest of this fall and winter to harvest my firewood for next season. With regular maintenance I expect this saw will last me quite a long time.

Strongly do not recommend this product. Before buying try to find the "manual" for a 450 Rancher on their website. It does not exist when searching 450 Rancher but that is the title here and what is printed on the side of my saw. The unit I purchased (450 Rancher w/20" bar) stopped oiling the first time I tried to use it. After several weeks trying to get it fixed - several repair shops outright refused to work on it because it was ordered "on-line". On the third attempt speaking with Husqvarna support I finally got a dealer that figured out that some parts were loose and they fixed it. Then it did cut several large tree trunks (35-40") well - full day of cutting. So I was optimistic that the oiler issue was a fluke and I would be happy with the unit. I then went to replace the chain but try to find one that "works". It is not possible to find one in a local store (and I live in an area with every type of store possible). On-line information, that I can find, states it is 78 link chain (one listed here on the site - 501 84 08-78 say 78 links). But the one I took off has 80 links. Tried to get the Oregon H78 (78 link) chain on my saw (supposedly the right one) - no possible way - too small. If you look on this website for accessories, the 20" chain also shows 78 links but my chain on the saw clearly has 80 links (see picture). Very disappointed in the support on their website and when speaking to them. Seen other posts about parts availability. It is a good saw when it works but the trouble getting it fixed and trying to find the right parts, plus the fact you cannot find the right information on their own website makes me regret the purchase.

Comments about 450 Rancher:
I cut down one 6" round tree before it STOPPED WORKING. For the money I spent I would expect to get more use. RETURN

About Me Do-It-Yourself
Purchased September 2017. Have only used a few times but man what a chainsaw. Starts easy and just cuts through most any kind of wood. I have owned several chainsaws in the past but I really love this 450 Rancher. Won't go wrong with this one.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Iv used the 445 with the company I work for. Iv probably put 350 hours on it. So I fell in love with husky products. This is basically the same saw but a little heavier, but way more power. I have over 10 hours on this 450 rancher and I love it!! It came with a 20" bar, had plenty of power. I bought a 16" bar and the difference in cutting speed it insane. I absolutely love this saw. I don't understand why people are complaining about it bogging down. They must not mix their fuel correctly and/or know how to properly sharpen a chain. I'm 25 with 3 1/2 years of manual trimming. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star across the board is the oiler isn't adjustable.
Great saw for the farm

Bought 450 Rancher after having S t i h l and Echo 20" class chainsaws that gave up the ghost. Been cutting trees for over 50 years and this saw is much easier starting for an old man with the compression relief. Have been using for over 1 1/2 years now on many acres of large hardwoods. Tears through the trees, including ripping by hand for planks. Getting new chains for the saw is not all that convenient, have been ordering them online as a result. Saw probably has well over 150 hours on it now and with proper maintenance (greasing bar sprocket, good oil and removing the gasoline (ethanol) between uses) expect it to last a long time. Based upon experience with this saw, will be buying the larger 465 Rancher with 28" bar as have some large diameter trees to come down & 20" bar isn't quite enough.
This saw I think will out live me.

I worked in the woods for 8 years and ran another brand. I can keep my saw working perfect myself. All saws have to be adjusted after it gets broke in and I do that myself. If your dealer doesn't understand that find a new dealer. I ran another brand for 8 years as I said. I have been using the 450 for a few years. It is the best saw I ever ran. I how ever am not at the mercy of a dealer that doesn't fully understand my problem.
Trial by fire
from Lady's Island, SC
My property took a beating from Hurricane Matthew. 7 trees were down across my driveway and 6 others in my yard. I knew my old McCullough wasn't up to the task, so I bought the 450 Rancher. It has gotten quite a workout the past 3 weeks. It has been easy to start and has performed well. The only tree that gave it any problems was a giant live oak. It struggled some and I sharpened the chain twice before completing it. My only complaint is after cranking the saw and releasing the chain brake the chain will engage itself rapidly and I have to squeeze the accelerator and then release it to get the chain to stop. This is a safety issue and I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this happening. Overall I am satisfied with the saw.

gonna buy a something else next time
This is the first time I have reviewed anything. That how irritating this is. I ordered a refurbished one from Northern Tool. I wasn't aware it only had a 30 day warranty till I had paid for it. Of course I could extend the warranty for 2 yrs for the cost of a new one. Which is silly. I used it once, oiled like crazy and worked great. Chain dulled due to cutting a lot of cedar. Of course 30 days passes quickly. 2nd time I used it, after the 30 days, started off great. Then quit oiling and smoked the bar. The cover fell off so I was done till I fixed that. Set everything up properly and tested it against some cardboard for a spay pattern. It had a good patter, but not nearly as much oil as when I first got it and seemed light. It was already out of warranty so nothing to lose. It worked fine, cuts like crazy, but oiler just doesn't oil properly. I'll still muddle through as a back up or if I'm in a pinch. I paid too much for it to just toss it. Lesson learned, apply the money you will waste on this to a Stilh.I hate to call it a junk saw, but the oiler is just junk and a chainsaw is only as good as the bar oiler.
Even better than my 350 with a 20" bar.
from Washington State
Had my 350 stolen, so I upgraded to the 450 Rancher w/a 20" bar so I could use the chains I already had. Opened the box, put on the bar and chain. Oiled and gas her up. Followed the instructions on the starting. 3 pulls and she fired right up. Made a couple of cuts and turned if off and restarted on 1st pull. Will highly recommend a Husqvarna 450 Rancher. For those complaining about the manual. Buy a "new" saw and it comes with one or go to an authorized service dealer and they can get a copy for a cost. Also, I had no problem looking up the manuals on the Husqvarna web page but it's 100 pages or so long. Looking forward to many years of use.
