This is either a low end professional/commercial duty saw or a high end casual/homeowner saw. I have recently acquired a BBQ Pit and have used this saw daily gathering a year's worth of Hickory. Some wood has been standing and some has been felled for 12-24 months. Either way, the saw has endured hours of use. As of now, it seems to be getting better with use. It starts easier, rev's quicker and has more power than when new. I'm on my 3rd chain by now. I recently had the opportunity to run a rival similar sized saw side-by-side with the 450 and the Husqvarna out performs the rival in my opinion.

Bought this chainsaw as an upgrade from the cheaper ones I've always had over the past 20 years and it was awesome initially. Great power and smooth, however, I used it only 6 hours last year and the first time I used it this year, I started it and let it sit and warm up for about 3 minutes like I usually do and turned around to see it smoking and on fire! Could not believe it! Freaked my son out. Put the fire out and brought it in to dealer as I got the extended 4 year warranty but then was told i was out of luck and they would not warranty it. They say because the chainsaw was warming up with the chain break on it was not warrantied. They say it burned out the clutch and started a fire and that is not covered! Are you kidding me! I get it that if I left it on high idle for a long time but it was on low idle just sitting there for about 3 minutes on a class 5 driveway and it burned up. What a joke. Called Husqvarna directly and they were no help at all just read from a corporate script and basically said too bad. Unbelievable to me that a supposed high quality chainsaw could be that fragile. I had thought Husqvarna made a good product and I just bought a $4000 Husqvarna riding lawnmower last week just a day before this happened but will be returning it today. So disappointed and will not recommend Husqvarna to anyone.

Great saw, with one little problem
from Monticello, MN
About Me Do-It-Yourself
Comments about HUSQVARNA 450:
The saw has performed perfectly in my two years of use. The only complaint I have is the balance. Even with a full tank of fuel, the saw teeters back and forth, often dropping the tip of the bar into the dirt. Every other saw I have ever used has a significant motor end weight bias so that the end of the bar stays well above the dirt when you set it down. Is there an easy fix for this? Should I just add some lead to the handle, or am I better off getting an 18" bar?
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Suspect that the Oiler Design not robust
from Western Pennsylvania
Comments about 450:
Used the brand new saw every weekend for three months to cut firewood rounds, maybe 15+ cords. Then like a light switch started to have troubles. Chain would begin stalling in middle of rounds and clutch would begin to overheat. Not a chain or bar issue, tried new of both. Oiler seems to be the suspect, bar oil consumption when way down and no bar oil spitting off end of bar. Drained oil and cleaned reservoir, changed oiler pump, drive worm, chain clutch and sprocket components with new, same problem with chain in middle cut of log. Read about an adjustable oiler retrofit here on the internet. I am going to try it next, still waiting for parts to be delivered. If this doesn't work saw is junked and will go to another saw manufacture, shame I really like the engine on this saw.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
bar is the weak point
from Lawrenceville, GA
I just purchased this saw and really got to use it for the first time. We are cutting up three very large oak trees for firewood. Before two tanks of gas the bar sprocket has locked up tight and had to remove the bard and mess with it for about 30 minutes to get it loose again. There is no hole to grease the sprocket at all which could make it harder for wood to jam itself in the sprocket. The saw cuts very well except for this and it thru a chain once also. in only two hours of operation. Please put a better 20" bar on this saw.
I would buy another one. Our saws get hard use.

We cut wood to heat our home in N. Wisconsin. I have used the 450 for 4 years. Starts easy and is a champ cutting oak, maple and birch. Very happy with it. Tough saw.

I will never buy orange again

My wife purchased a 450 chainsaw to replaced a Craftman chainsaw I had used for many years. I was excited to get a top quality saw. After about 2 hours of cutting the bolts holding the muffler on vibrated out causing the muffler to fall off. I had to order the replacement bolts from Husquvarna on the internet and pay stupid prices for the bolts. About 2 months later, on the next tree the saw would die and not want to restart after it was hot,. Took it to the Northern Tools (Husquvarna service center) who claimed I used the wrong fuel mixture ratio (only use premixed fuel). It took them about 7 months to fix the saw under warranty, mainly waiting on Husquvarna to approve it. After getting it returned it was difficult to start and the fuel line kept coming off. I think that this problem was from an incompetent service center. I had so many problems with this saw and the frustration level was so high that the saw ended up in the garbage can where it belonged. Although most of the problems were probably caused by the incompetent service center I will not be buying another. I will probably go with a professional series Stihl.
Husqvarna 450, 50 year asnaverty chain saw

About Me Professional
I got this saw used from a pawn shop.. Let me rephrase that. my girlfriend bought me this chainsaw from a pawn shop. She Happened by it shopping with her friend . Let me tell you they both don't know very much about chainsaws. She said she seen it , and the price was right. soo she picked it up, for kinda of surprised me. It was nice of her to do, but I thought O no! what did she do now, lol I was completely wrong. couldn't find much information on it . It appears to be the same as the the regular 450, same features the only difference I saw was , It was made in switzerland, and the 50 year saw originally came with a bag and a cool hat. I didn't get either of those unfortunately but the saw is good enough. It gots plenty of power with the 50cc 3.2 hp . and a 18' bar . It cut's everything I threw at it. I cut everyday , and so far so good.. I need a 13" or a 15" bar for it to get speed on limbing. as it is now . it has no problem felling anything we got around here . Cut thru a 40" tree yesterday. had it laid over and bucked in a an hour , hour and a half. didn't slow down once. as for durability I inly had it for 3 or 4 months. but It's still runs great. starts easy. think about it the saw was made in 2009 , still running I'm assuming like it was brand new . so the best all around saw on the market . No more 5 saws in the back of the truck. I load this and some gas and some chain oil . that's it I love it ! thanks husqvarna ! I'm impressed on the the effort that was put in to making a quality product.

Great mid-size saw!!
from Watford City
Comments about Husqvarna 450:
Needed one of these for occasional tree clearing, so I bought the 450 Rancher. Really good power. I've had several other brands in this class, but this saw is head & shoulders better than they were. Easy starts, stays running & gets the job done without the frustration of a saw that doesn't work right.

Finally got to try out our new 450..... Very Impressed!
While we bought this 450 5-6 months ago I got to use it on our mountain property 25 miles south of Lake Tahoe NV. We dropped 4 trees and cut up another that was rotten at the base and was a blow down. Largest tree was 21" on the future fence line. This ripped through anything I got in front of it! Easy to start and love the anti vibration features these saws have! Flying chips looked about like 1/2 size of a finger nail! Even with no jet change it started right up when hot! We are at 6000' so I was impressed by this as well.Great power, features and color...HA!bb

Saw is a workhorse, manual is an insult to intelligence
After returning the saw to the dealer who showed me how to NOT follow the printed starting instructions and thus avoid flooding during a cold start, it now performs like a dream. What a workhorse. Starts every time now that I know enough to take the choke off after one pull. I used a McCullough for years and the 450 performance blows it away. No sagging, bucking or drifting -- hardwood, softwood, makes no difference. Just clean, reliable knife-through-butter action. This machine is a thing of beauty when it's performing.HOWEVER, as others have noted, the instruction manual is truly awful. If there was a contest for the worst ever, I'd enter this one and I think it might win. Page after page of incomprehensible tiny pictures may go over big at budget meetings, but out here in the real world they're just silly, even insulting. You'll feel better after dropping the manual in the garbage.
