I visited this page to get a spec on the saw, noticed the highly negative reviews, and felt compelled to add my voice. I have had my Husqvarna 435 for two years now. My experience with this saw has been very positive. Before buying this saw my experience with Husqy products was limited to much larger XP-series saws, and I found the very small, light 435 a delight to deal with. The ergonomics are excellent and I have found the saw extremely reliable and very durable. The combo choke-stop took a second to get used to, but I now like it better than the older two-control setup. I have never run ethanol fuel in it and have never had an issue starting it. On my saw I prime it, pull it choked once or maybe twice until I hear it fire, then unchoke and pull again and I'm off and running, exactly as the manual says the saw should start. My saw did require some fairly extensive carburetor adjustment from the factory (annoyingly, this requires specialty tools, as well all CARB-compliant devices), and re-adjustment of the idle for a second time after a break-in period. Once these tweaks were made it runs great, in both warm and extremely cold conditions. The saw is quite minimalist in terms of features, some of which are definitely drawbacks compared to other larger Husqvarana saws. The absence of an adjustable oiler and the minimal, fixed position bumper spikes stand out. It is also small, which may be a pro or a con depending on your application. With a 16" bar it zings right along even buried, but cutting speed on bigger stuff (not to mention depth) leaves much to be desired, and the narrow chain dulls quickly. If you are using it for felling or repetitive bucking, especially in material over 12", you will likely find it undersized. For other tasks that call for nimbleness over sheer power it is ideal, and as a homeowner tool for occasional brush clearing, limbing, or light-duty firewood service, this saw is exceptional. It's great for woodworking/carpentry applications, too.

Can't get it started. When it does, it won't stay running. Husqvarna didn't want to support it. Have a kick butt 46 inch lawn tractor and a two stage snow blower. Unfortunately, you struck out on this one. Read other reviews after I bought this and understand my difficulties. Can't believe I didn't read reviews. I thought the chainsaw was a no-brainer after the great tractor and snow blower. I'd never buy another Husqvarna chainsaw ever even if the other models had rave reviews and were half priced.

Comments about 435:
This saw has never run great, and it rarely runs good. I've owned it for 4-5 years, bought for limbing. It's been back to a dealer 6 times, never runs better afterwards. I finally removed the L and H needles, ground a slot in them and tuned it myself. Ran perfect last weekend. Won't run for sh#t today. I'm over this saw.

About Me Do-It-Yourself
I see the other reviews and I have had no such problems. The saw starts right up cold or hot. When I got it I noticed the idle speed was to slow so I adjusted it now it will idle all day if I let it. The saw cuts smoothly with little vibration.

Had one of these for a few years now and it never lets me down. Very happy with it.
Good value for the price
I have an eight year old model 435 chainsaw which is the best general utility chainsaw I have ever owned. As I write this the 3 other reviews of this chainsaw are very negative which is contrary to my experience. I probably have 150 hours using this saw and have not found it hard to start and keep running. The only thing I do which may account for my success is that I don't leave fuel in the fuel system when the saw will be unused for more than a few days. I run the saw until the tank is empty and the engine stalls. I think this may avoid many of the problems inherent with ethanol-based fuels. And I follow the recommended starting procedure carefully; it is easy to flood the engine by over-choking.
What a big mistake

A real piece of junk. Can never get it started and keep it running. Service tells me it's ok but took him forever to start it when I went there. Got it over 5 years and maybe once out of the dozens of times I needed it did it work. I have a 30 yr old STeHL that still runs like a race horse. Husqvarna should stand behind their products.

I've had the saw for a few months and use it roughly weekly or every other week. Not once have I had a problem starting it. I run 91 octane California gas, and the corn juice is mandatory. I've never had to pull it more than once to start past the choke lever pull. It flew through everything i put it up against, save one bone dry oak tree. Even then, it was awesome for most of the limbing, but the bigger parts of the tree would slow the saw if it were buried, or start smoking. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat!

I have three Crews using these saws. They are dropped, Used in sand, Used in water, It has never failed. I work cleaning out rivers these saws have taken a lot of abuse. They have been easy to start every single time. These little saws have plenty of power.
Starts for me, every time.

I just follow the directions. Flip up the lever (which sets the choke and throttle). Push the bulb six times. Pull the rope (Once!). Flip down the lever. Pull the rope (starts). I don't leave gas in it over the winter. I change the chain when it's not cutting like knife through butter.

I'm surprised at the bad reviews. I've had mine for about three years. Starts on first or second pull every time. Runs great. Great saw.
