On August 5th, 100,000 robotic lawn mowers can sing Happy Birthday to the loneliest robot in the universe.

The story

10 years ago, on August 5th, NASA’s Curiosity Rover first landed on Mars, marking its birthday. One year later, Curiosity celebrated its first birthday by doing something no one should have to do - Sing Happy Birthday. To itself.

Since that day, its birthday has been completely silent. Until now.

In our recent update we’re giving every Automower® robotic lawn mower, of the models 405X, 415X or 435X AWD, a voice to sing Happy 10th Birthday to our fellow robot on Mars. 

How it works

  • Users with 405X, 415X or 435X AWD will be notified about the update through the Husqvarna Automower® Connect app.
  • Note - your Automower® must have the latest firmware installed in order to join in on the celebration.
  • Accept the firmware update, connect to the Smart Connection in the Smart Home section of Automower® Connect app, and your Automower® will sing at 12pm, 3pm and 6pm (local time) on August 5th. 
  • Feel free to share the video of your mower singing and tag it with  #HappyBirthdayCuriosityRover and #Automower

Following Mars Curiosity Rover's birthday, Husqvarna will make the Happy Birthday song available to owners of the three Automower® models permanently. This will be available early September, adding joy to future family birthday celebrations.

405X, 415X and 435X AWD with the latest firmware installed. 

For those who accept the update, their Automower® will sing at 12pm, 3pm and 6pm on August 5th.

At this time, Automower® will only sing on August 5th for the Curiosity Rover’s Birthday. But, in early September we will offer this permanently on the Automower® Connect App. 

If you want to join in on the fun, you can activate this through the Smart Home section of the Automower® Connect App. Follow the step-by-step instruction video above for additional instructions. 

Automower® has a small buzzer for alarms and sound notifications. Our engineers adapted this for a series of sine waves (musical tones).
