How to start a Husqvarna top handle chainsaw

Remember to always follow all safety precautions when starting your Husqvarna chainsaw. The chain brake must be engaged to reduce the risk of injury. Never start a chainsaw unless the bar, chain and all covers are fitted correctly. Otherwise the clutch can come loose and cause serious injuries. Place the machine on firm ground. Ensure you have a secure footing and that the chain is not in contact with anything. Keep people and animals well away from the working area.

Step-by-step guide to starting the top handle chainsaw

  1. Place the chainsaw on flat ground, ensuring the bar doesn’t touch anything. Also ensure you are wearing all of the protective equipment.
  2. The chain brake must be engaged when the chainsaw is started. Activate the brake by moving the front hand guard forwards.
  3. Prime the engine by pressing the air purge (fuel bulb) until it starts to fill up with fuel.
  4. Activate the choke by pressing the blue choke lever down.
  5. Hold the front handle and press the saw firmly against the ground with your left hand. NOTE! Make sure to not to press the throttle.
  6. Pull the starter cord slowly until the starter pawls engage. Then pull sharply until the engine ignites. Never wrap the starter cord around your hand.
  7. Deactivate the choke.
  8. Pull the starter handle again to start the engine.
  9. Disengage the chain brake by pulling the front hand guard towards you.
  10. Rev a few times to obtain normal RPM.
  11. Engage the chain brake again and keep it engaged until it’s time to use the chain saw.
