Starter cord failure
I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing my trimmer. Like many others I have experienced a start cord failure. I used the trimmer for about 5 months/10 times when the starter cord would not retract. I took it to a repair facility and was told this was a common problem with the easy-start system and that the metal spring damages the drive pulley, clearly a design flaw. The claim for warranty was denied leaving me the cost to replace the recoil assembly. I called the service number, unable to find an address to write them about my concern, and was told that this part was a “wear” part and only covered for 30 days. It is sad when you think you are purchasing quality and it does not even last one season. It is the last Husqvarna product I will purchase.

I originally went to buy my mom a new cheap trimmer like she had always bought in the past. As I was looking around trying to decide between the cheap or cheaper one I asked the guy that worked in the department which of the two cheaper ones weighed less. He proceeded to look up the weights and then told me that this model was lighter. After comparing weights of the three and seeing the features of the Husqvarna, I decided to go from paying $85 to paying about $250. I have to say that I am glad I did. My mother did not like the idea at first, but after using the trimmer a couple times she really likes that she can reach further under bushes and decks and stairs than she was used to with her previous curved shaft trimmers. The only downfall that we have come up with is that the weight distribution is off a little, the trimmer heads needs to be just a touch heavier to balance it out.

Only used a few times , but good so far
I purchased this product in the fall, so it hasn't had much use. It starts easily and runs well, but it seems a little underpowered. Maybe after it is broken in and the carb readjusted it might have a little more guts to it. It works fine for what I purchased it for though. It was definitely a little pricy and I waited, but could never find it on sale, although I did buy it when they were offering a free can of premix gas with it.

Light weight and powerful
Only used 1/2 season. Pleased with performance. Recommend you watch web site video to learn how to change string. Manual no help in this regard. Warning - don't buy through Sears. Had to pay $20 over other retailers and recommended price on Husqvarna web site. No stock anywhere else.

Ok but maintenance could be an issue
User manual says use husqvarnahusqvarna 2 cycle oil, air filter oil, gear grease. Only one available on web is 2 cycle oil.
Manual also says to readjust fuel mixture after initial burn in -but special adjustment screws only accessible by special tools -manual says to take to dealer/maintaince shop.
Also nowhere on machine or in manual do they say what model the trimmer head is. Alternatives included one that holds 28 ft and one that holds 18 ft. Trimmer came with 20 ft of line?

Easy to Use
I've had my 223L for just a week, so I cannot honestly comment on durability; however, from my limited experience with this trimmer, I'm confident it will outlast my cheaper(?) Troy-Bilt that no longer operates after a year. This 223L is much lighter and quieter, even more quiet than my electric trimmer. It starts easily and can handle the thick zoysia lawn grass. The one short coming I've experienced so far is the excessive heat next to my arm, but I wear heavy long sleeves anyway for protection. In short, however, I love my new 223L! For reference, I am 5' 4" and weigh 130 lbs

Not as good as I expected
I purchased one inn 2012 and liked it a great deal. Has good reviews. However after a year it started vibrating and the head came off. The dealer replaced it, and the new one now is vibrating after only a little use. I called and was referred to a local repair outfit who said to check whether there was much grease in the head/bevel gear. I looked and there wasn't. There seems to be a problem here. If you have one and it starts to vibrate, check the bevel gear grease. I'm told its takes SAE 90. The instructions say it should be 3/4 full of grease (pg 19) and mine certainly isn't.

Well balanced, light weight trimmer
I've had the 223L for 9 months and it's been problem free and a pleasure to operate. I'm a homeowner with a 1.5 acre property and the unit is more than capable for the task. Out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the great balance and light weight. It is a full two Lbs lighter than the previous trimmer I was using which was significant after an hour of use. The property has large sections of beds and lots of fence posts and this trimmer was worth the money. The unit starts and warms up quickly; no more than three pulls. The line feed works well though not as easy to replenish the line as my old unit.
