HUSQVARNA FAST TRACTOR™ YTH24K48
Idler pulley flew off within a month of use
We bought this mower as a refurbished unit at Lowe's. It had less than one hour on the engine clock, and was stated as being refurbished because of a problem with the hood not closing properly when it arrived at the store. Because of the significant discount, and low engine hours, we bought this mower to replace our 19 year old cub cadet. I liked the triple bladed 48" deck and the fully automatic hydrostatic transmission. The mower has a lot of power, and while it does not seem as heavy duty as my old cub, it cut our lawn and pasture area adequately. When mowing our lawn, 28 days after the mower was delivered, the mower suddenly threw the idler puller off the deck and into the yard in front of the mower. I picked up the pulley and saw that the bolt, that should have bolted the pulley onto the deck, was sheared off, just like it had been cut with a hack saw. This was not what I expected from a brand new mower. I called Lowe's and they have picked up the mower for repair. I hope that this is not an indication of the overall quality of the machine. There is also an issue with one of the anti-scalp wheels on the mower deck. The wheel on the right rear of the deck, if viewed while you are sitting on the mower, will not mount into one of the holes, so you have to choose one either higher or lower, for that wheel. The hole is drilled in the wrong spot, so that the wheel will not clear the deck, if you try to mount it there. I looked online, and found that apparently Husquvara knows of this defect, but other than getting a different deck, or simply not using that wheel height, I don't see any way to fix this.
Because of these problems, so early in my ownership, I opted to purchse the extended warranty from Lowes, which made my great deal, a little less great. I truly hope that this mower isn't a lemon and that I get it back soon. I do not expect a purchase of this price to fail within a month of light use.

So far a very good mower
I have had my mower since May and have mowed my yard of 1-1/2 acres 4 times. This mower will really scoot. I had never had a mower with a hydrostatic transmision - always had the type you shift, so I didn't know what all the fuss was about, but now I love it. I really like being able to press the pedal and go. I have owned 3 other lawn tractors and this one gets the job done faster than any of the others. I have some areas with some pretty tough grass and it just cuts right through it. I do caution you to follow the directions about gasoline and water. I was mowing this past Saturday and I need to add some gas, so I picked up a small container that I had on the patio. It had been there a couple of months, so it evidently had attracted a good bit of moisture. When I resumed mowing, I got all manner of sputtering and coughing. My neighbor heard my mower and brought over some gas treatment just for such troubles and I was able to finish mowing in no time with no more sputtering. I am well pleased with this mower and hope it lasts as long as my last one did - 15 years, even though it was a different brand.
My only beef is the zerk or alemite on the right mower pulley is already missing. I also noticed a display model in the Lowes store where I purchased my mower had the same one missing. Overall, very satisfied.

Very capable tractor
I purchased the mower on 7/13/13 at a big box store. It's a replacement for a 9-year old tired John Deere L120 (with a bad transmission#. I decided not to sink in $700, if I did the work myself, into the John Deere and bought the Husqvarna. I did a lot of research and being a JD fan, was skeptical of the Husqvarna brand. This mower was the obvious choice for it's features, value, power and performance.
First, the good. I was very impressed with the speed and power. The ride was also quite smooth. I especially like the fact that I don't have to push a button in order to mow in reverse. Great turn radius. This mower definitely cut down the amount of time it takes for me to cut my 1-acre lot.
Now for the not so good. My first cut was not a nice one. The deck was seriously unleveled and so the mower scalped my lawn in quite a few places. Why didn't I read the manual and adjust the deck before I mowed? I could not use the manuals. Apparently, the bag with the manuals must have not been sealed properly and every single piece of paper was water logged and thus unusable. Second, the plastic on the steering wheel is peeling off. An obvious defect. The last thing is that the engine is missing oil drain valve.
I called the store that I purchase this from and told them of the 3 issues and the person was not helpful whatsoever. All she kept saying is that they don't manufacture it, just sell it and to bring it back for a refund. I finally decided to call the Husqvarna customer service and she was quite helpful. She said that they will ship out the oil drain valve and the steering wheel (once it becomes available). She never said anything about replacement manuals. I'm still waiting on the replacement parts. I hope Husqvarna makes good on this. As for the manuals, I let the sun dry them out. They're wrinkled, but at least I was able to use it to adjust my deck.

the "fast tractor"
great name for a great machine. took a little while to get used to the automatic transmission, but it saves time and is only a pedal away to change speed or direction. it will go as fast as long as u can hang on. that's in tall grass as well.

GREAT RIDING LAWN MOWER
I have had this mower for over a month now and it's great. It's affordable for what qualities it has on it. If you do choose to get this mower, make sure you read the manual before you operate it. The manual will state to purge the transmission. Do that! Who wants problems. When you receive the mower, check the tire pressure on all the tires. Mine were over inflated and from some of the other reviews I have read, it's a common thing.
I have a good size yard and this mower is very smooth. The arm rest are a great design.
The motor is very quiet and has a lot of power. It has a great turning radius also.
If you really do your research then you will find out that this mower beats the other competitors.

Lots of power, hard to steer
I owned one other riding mower before buying this one- a Craftsman LT-1500 which did average for 5 years then the engine basically exploded. I wanted to step up the quality a bit so I bought the Husqvarna 24K48. Took me a while to get used to a hydrostatic, but its much quicker to mow with than a geared mower, although a little jerky. This review is based on eight hours of use ( about 15 mowings ).
A lot of power and very fast if you need it to be. Compared to the Craftsman 42-inch it doesn't mow as evenly. I think this is either due to too much power (Could the grass be getting blown flat by the air from the blades?) or because my yard is very un-level and hilly, making the 48-inch deck rise and fall in places and mow un-evenly. I would only recommend this size mower for a completely flat/level yard. This mower is very comfortable. The arm-rests were a major factor for the purchase. The engine runs smooth with no heavy vibrations, although it is kinda loud. The gas cap being on the side is more convenient than having to raise the hood and risk spilling on the engine. The major complaint I have with this mower is the steering, which is why I gave it an overall 4. It's very hard to turn and can put a blister on your hand. Maybe I need to grease the steering column? But so far that's the major flaw. Still, I don't regret my choice.

I have owned many brand name riding mowers over the years the Husqvarna Fast Tractor is a far superior tractor. Ease of operation, comfort, and performance makes it one that I would recommend to anyone.
