Wow what a lawn tractor
Read the owners manual followed instructions deck was level and trans was purged by Lowes in my drive way. Put gas in it and she fired up. Talk about a beast. Thick Florida always wet grass cuts clean first time. Clean up is easy power and handling are above average. It loves the big hill on front of house never know the difference. When time will up grade to mulching blades but that will be a while. Not crazy about the fuel gauge but I am sure they will fix this on the next models. I cut almost a 1/2 acre in under 20 minutes It takes longer to weed eat the edges. My wife wants to try it but I hide the key LOL. This is a solid machine.

Fast, Durable, Powerful... and Worth Every Penny
My neighbor and I went to Lowe's over President's day weekend. We were not 100% set on a Husqvarna, we were also considering a John Deere D110/D130. We both went home with new Husqvarnas and here is why: The YTH24K48 is, in my opinion, is a better built, better designed and a more durable tractor than the John Deeres.
The YTH24K48 has a metal hood as opposed to the plastic hood on the Deere. The metal hood on the Husqvarna has louvers and plenty of slots for the Kohler Courage engine to breathe. The 48" wide deck has a reinforced metal tube that surrounds the entire deck. I think this is going to be put to the test in 7 years, when my kid is big enough to mow. Additionally, the black wheels on the base of the Husqvarna deck are very wide. This is important for when mowing in sandy or damp yards. The wide wheel keeps the deck a float and prevents your blades from skimming dirt. On the John Deere, the wheels were much more narrower. Also, on the Husqvarna, the bracket the mower deck wheels are mounted to are thick and reinforced. The deck wheel bracket on the John Deere was thin and looked easy to bend/break.
I also chose the YTH24K48 over the smaller Husqvarna #YTH21K46# because the pully system on the YTH24K48 deck has grease fittings for easy maintenance of the pully system. I also chose the YTH24K48 because it is the fastest lawn mower under $2000. The John Deere mowers only went approximately 5 MPH #according to the Lowe's lawn mower catalog#. I live in SC and mowed my grass and weeds out of my yard yesterday #23 Feb 12#. I have a little over .5 acres, all flat. It took me 25 minutes to cut the entire yard. I probably have about 10 minutes of work left with my weedeater.
The tractor performed beyond my expectations when I used it, it was fast, it had no problem mowing over large and thick patches of 10" tall weeds, and it was easy to use. The design of the steering wheel is really great for quick turns at the increased speeds.
If you are like my neighbor and I, when you get home with this new machine, you want to gas it, start it, and test drive it. Who needs the owners manual right? So take note, you must "Purge" the tranny before you operate it. If you do not know about this step, you will become angry and think your new lawn mower is broken because the lawn mower will not move forward or backward when you press the pedal. This is really my first of two negatives that I do not like about this mower. I think Husqvarna needs to put a notice over the steering wheel about purging the system because men do not normally read the owner's manual first.
The second thing I do not like about my YTH24K48 is the arm rests mounted on the comfortable high back seat. I do not like the arm rests because they are in the way everytime you have to get off of your mower to open a gate, move a dog toy, a child's toy or even a large stick that fell out of a tree. I prefer to jump off, move the object to the spot I just mowed, and then get back on. Also, I do not have a large enough yard that requires me to stay on my mower for an hour or two, so I do not need them. The good part is, they are easy to remove.
One thing I have no knowledge/experience with is the use of Husqvarna's customer service. The Lowe's salesman told us that one great thing about John Deere was their customer service was phenominal. In the future, if I have to call on Husqvarna's customer service, I will update this review.
But overall, I doubt I'll be calling customer service because I think the engineers did an excellent job when they built this machine, they did not short change the consumer at all in ergonomics, performance, value, or power. I'm very pleased with my new mower and I look forward to cutting grass in half the time this summer.

Perfect!
I got this tractor in early Spring/2013. I had 13 year old Craftsman tractor and it was still in perfect shape - but decided to sell and upgrade to a faster tractor! This Husqvarna YTH24K48 was the best. I got at Lowes - looked at Craftsman but reviews were not great and speed was slow unless you got expensive garden tractor with very large cut deck - too large for me. This deck is perfect size for 1.25 Acre lot with lots of things to cut around. Great turn radius, great speed, easy removal of deck, easy cleaning of deck and whole tractor, great engine - Kohler is a must!! I looked at Deer but didn't like quality of engine or plastic hood. Just open the hood and look the Husqvarna is built so much better, hands down! Speed is the top for any tractor in the price range - I cut my yard much faster now! Can go in reverse without having to hold any button down - perfect because I have do a lot of backup while cutting. I got the Brush Guard - looks and works great - very high quality and you can open the hood while it's on. Got the Mulch blade set and I still cut on full speed without any issues at all. I could take the muffler off easy too - I wanted to take off and paint with high temp paint before using - to prevent any rust! The only thing I didn't like was where the hood lays down on the plastic body when closed - there are two notches to catch the hood that will constantly get scratched and worn down and the metal under that also gets scratched. I really didn't like this - so I bought black car door edging and ran that along the edge of the hood so when it lays down - it keeps the metal from contacting anything and it looks really nice - just get at car store for like $12 and cut it to fit! I also added a few rubber guards under the hood so they lock the hood down a little better. Cutting deck is also a small issue - you can only go down 3 notches before the deck hits the ground - not sure why they have like 6 or 7 notches when you can't possibly even go that low! I cut on the 2 notch down or the highest setting and it's perfect. Just seemed strange that you have all these levels for cutting but can really only use like 3 of them. Also - my first mower had issues with the break not locking so Lowes replaced it like a week after I had it. New one had no issues at all. Another nice note is where the trailer attaches to the tractor hitch - I took rubber plumbing washers and zip-tied 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top to create a nice rubber bumper for the trailer to connect too - this prevented the tractor from getting all scratched up every time you used the trailer. Fantastic Tractor! Oh - Gas Gauge - some complain about that but - I never look at this unless I'm filling the tank. I can easily see how full the tank is as it's filling so I don't overfill. It's not a gauge to watch as you cut! I fill up each time I cut - that simple. Takes me 45 Minutes to cut my yard - and about a full tank of gas - used to take me over an hour to cut my yard - this tractor is much faster! One last thing - if you turn you key to the on position it will keep logging hours on the hour meter - so always turn you key to the off position or remove key each time you put tractor away.

Got a good deal...I hope.
I was looking to buy a mower quickly. With all the rain we have had this spring and without a mower, our yard looked like the Amazon forest. We had grass as tall as 18" in spots and I knew I would have to have a good mower to tackle the job. I went to the local Lowe's to look at what they had. I didn't want to spend a small fortune on a mower. Yeah call me a tight wad. Well, they had a good variety of Troy Built, Husqvarna, John Deere, etc. I was looking at the mowers around the $1000 to $1200 price range. Needless to say I wasn't too thrilled at what I saw in that price range. Then I spotted a Husqvarna sitting away from the rest of the mowers. I walked over and saw it had been returned for a repair. The repair ticket stated they found nothing wrong with the mower. They had it reduced to $1500. Still a little more than I wanted to spend. I asked the salesman if that was the best price they could offer on a "used mower?" He checked the hour meter and it had 4.9 hours on it, it was just broken in good. He said he could take another $50 off. With my 10% discount for being a Vet I figured it would make it around the $1325 range. Just a little more than I wanted to spend but I figured I was getting a $1900 mower for around $1300. So I bought it and hoped that I had made a good choice.
I got it home, pulled it off the trailer and started to mow. I set the deck to the 2.5" mark and started to mow. WOW! That was the first word that came out of my mouth when it cut through a stand of grass about 14" tall and as thick as it could get. I figured I would have to mow 2 or 3 times lowering the deck each time so as not to choke the engine out. Was I ever wrong! It cut right through the grass and never bogged down a bit. It was probably the best mower I had ever used to date.
Now the horror story of cutting grass that's 18" tall. It's hard to see things that are on the ground hidden by the grass. I was trying to keep an eye out for things that wouldn't be good for the "new" mower. I was going along in some really thick grass when I heard the awfullest racket. Before I could stop the mower and see what I had run over, the mower had spit out an old heavy duty aluminum pot that we were using for the dog's water bowl. As I saw the pot come flying out the discharge and landed some 20 feet away, I was in shock. I shut the mower down, then walked over to take a look at the damage to the pot. There were chunks missing from it! It was all bent out of shape and pieces were missing from it as though it had been blown up by C4 or something..LOL. I took a look under the mower deck to see if there was any damage to it and to my surprise I couldn't see anything! Now if a mower deck can stand up to mowing an aluminum pot and not be damaged I'd say it's a great mower deck. When they say it's armored, they mean it!
I continued to mow the rest of the 3 acres without any problems or objects. With grass as high as 18" high I thought it would have taken me a couple of days to get it all mowed. I thought I would have to mow it several times before it was at the height I wanted. I mowed with the deck set at a 2.5" height and it ate through the tall grass like a brush hog. It only took me 3 hours for what I thought was going to be at least a 2 day job.
I think I made the right choice with the Husqvarna, the only thing I'm worried about is that it was returned for a repair even though they found nothing wrong. My wife says with 4.9 hours on the meter, someone mowed their yard then decided they didn't want it. So for the price I got it for I think I got a great deal instead of a good deal!

Great Value
Bought this tractor after a lot of research. Features vs price and for the money this was the best deal. The cut is beautiful and the ride is very comfortable. I haven't found anything that I dislike about this tractor.

Its a great machine
This machine work just like everyone said it would, I have a little upgrade in our yard, but it acts just like it wasn't there. The engine is a little noisy, but with the size of the engine it is expected. I wished it was able to equip a snow plow to it. The price of this unit has a very good price for this model. I would recommend this tractor to anyone who is thinking about buying one. Will be getting the mulching kit to add to this machine.

Great Mower
This is a fine piece of equipment, and my first new mower. I bought a Yardman 38" cut mower used 6 years ago, and sold it to buy this one. Not a thing wrong with the yardman, but it bogged down in thicker/taller grass only having a 13.5 hp motor, and it wasn't very comfortable. This mower slices and dices, and no bogging. It sounds mean, and is much quieter than the old yardman. I can cut the grass, and not even have it on full throttle, making it even more quiet and fuel efficient. It's a really good looking mower too. I drove it around for an entire hour the first day, and never cut a blade of grass. Great product.
