HUSQVARNA 450 e-series
I've been using this saw for just over a year now and wanted to wait to write a review until I had become acquainted with the saw. I'll say that I am a first time chainsaw owner and user and my main uses for this saw is felling dangerous trees and cutting firewood. With that said, this saw is a great piece of machinery.
I've fellen about 8 trees this past year and cut up close to 5 cords of firewood and this saw has not disappointed. Firstly it starts every single time with ease. I have yet to have any trouble starting this saw. I add fresh gas and bar oil each time I use the saw and follow the procedures and it cranks right up. The chainsaw has a great amount of power and goes through wood like butter.
Some people have complained about the chain tensioner and I'm not sure what problem they are having but that tool-less tensioner is great! You simply loosen the bolt and spin the gear. Once tensioned, just tighten the bolt. Maybe some people have bar oil on the bolt? I have no idea but it works great. Similarly, the bar oiler is fine. If you rev the saw before using it and it between cuts it helps get bar oil to the chain and bar making sure the bar does not over heat. I have not had an issue with the chain burning. Lastly as far as oil leaking, just open the oil cap before storing to release the pressure and no problems.
Overall the saw is great. The chain needs sharpened just like any other chainsaw and it cuts great. It starts great and has been so reliable. Does good on gas and bar oil and has been a pleasure to use. Thank Husqvarna.

Tool-less adjuster has got to go.
I was pretty impressed with this saw at first. It has a good balance of weight to power. I was pretty much sold on the tool-less tension adjuster and is the main reason I chose this model. However, that is its sole downfall as far as I'm concerned.
Thank God it is tool-less because I am constantly re-tightening the chain. Seriously about every third or fourth cut it is falling off the bar. I had it fly off once ruining the bar, thank God for the chain catcher.
I also have the issues mentioned with the oiler. It really needs to be adjustable, it just doesn't put near enough oil out there. Not uncommon to smoke the chain after about 5 minutes of bucking. Have tried four different oils.
IMHO the chain slack problem is due to a combination of: Only one bolt tightening the bar. The tensioner bolt that goes thru the bar is conical on the end allowing it to move out of the bar. And, not enough oil being put to the chain allowing the chain to heat excessively.
I seriously regret buying this. Still want a Husky but wish I'd spent a little more for the adjustable oiler and steered away from this type of tensioner.
The issues with the chain pretty much render this saw a step above worthless due to the time wasted constantly readjusting.

Model 450e chainsaw
Very nice saw, excellent power to weight ratio. Build quailty is very good. Easy to start and the tooless chain adjust is a very nice feature.

Tool-less tensioner is a horrible "feature"
The saw is full of power. Cuts great. However, I've been through multiple chains due to them being thrown and bound up. Why are they thrown? Because the chain gets loose from the vibration of the saw spinning the tensioner backwards. I spend more time tightening the chain than I do cutting wood.
Today I got smart enough to jam a little stick in the dial to prevent it from spinning back. Still shouldn't have to do that.
I bought it because it's a Husqvarna. You can't go wrong with a husky... or so I thought. Fix this issue and its a great saw, but that issue is a deal breaker.

Nice Machine - Poor quality and poor customer service
Five minutes after I first used the saw, the chain, bar and bar housing flew off and nearly sliced my arm. I had to search for the parts in the brush. I called the Husqvarna people and got the run around from some place called "Dixie Sales". They were polite enough, but did nothing but route me to a service center who wanted to charge me $25.00 for an inspection to see if the item was under waranty. The problem was that the chain was bent after it flew off and would not fit onto the bar. I had to go to Lowes to buy another chain. Paid $26.69 plus tax. After putting in all back together again, it worked fine. They wanted me to go to a service center in Logansville, GA. I called them and they said they needed to see if the saw caused the damage, but doubted if anything would be found as the saw is working fime now. The end result is that no one wants to reinburse me for the new chain or even admit that there may have been a problem with the original chain that caused the chain all all of the components to fly off. Dont waste your time with these folks. Buy a Stihl or get a cheaper model from Lowes or Home Depot. They at least know how to handle customers with respect and will offer the help you need.

I’ve purchased many less expensive chainsaws over the last 40 years. My Husqvarna 450e is the best chainsaw in every way. It was hard to decide to spend the more on the Husqvarna without knowing someone who actually had one to get their opinion. I read many reviews online, compared overall value and features with Stihl and Echo in the same price range. Husqvarna came out on top for overall value, so I purchased the 450e.
After using it for over a year now, I have never been more pleased with a product like this. Everything about the saw works perfectly and it’s obvious the experienced engineering went into the design. Every time I use the saw it’s a pleasant experience (relative to the saw). This was not the case with the previous chainsaws that I owned. Normally I would avoided using them due to the overall frustration with getting the started or keeping them running.
So, bottom line… The Husqvarna 450e is a fantastic chainsaw, great value and an unbelievably well engineered tool. I would highly recommend it to anyone! My only regret is that they didn’t have the free carrying case when I bought mine. That makes it an even better value!

Worth the money
Have used Poulans for years. Simply because of the cost. Well, for small stuff that I was usually cutting down (trees, mostly pine less than 12" in diameter) that was OK. Well, I now manage 14 acres and bigger trees (16-20" in diameter) and I needed a bigger saw. Always wanted a Husqvarna, and I went ahead and vouched for the 450-e. Great power, Great Ergonomics, for a great price. I will never return to a Poulan..ever. This saw is a great saw for any homeowner..... Period.

LOSS OF POWER
I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE UNIT UNTIL LAST WEEK. AT THAT TIME , IT STARTED LOSING POWER AND NOW , IT WILL HARDLY GO THROUGH PINE!!
I PURCHASED IT ON 3/9/2009 AT TSC FOR $369.00 AND WILL NOT BE GETTING ANOTHER ONE OR RECOMMENDING THEM TO ANYONE.
A UNIT HAT COST THAT MUCH SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN THREE YEARS!
