I have run saws for 23 years and this is the biggest piece of junk I've ever had the displeasure of using. Purchased new at Lowes, did a little trimming with it and the chain came off....twice. realized the issue was that there was only 1 stud/nut holding the plate on where the clutch, bar and chain are. The nut vibrates loose and allows the chain to come off. Easy fix...put a lock nut on...Great I was back in business, for now. Cut about two cord of before it started giving troubles starting. I took it to the shop and they adjusted the high/low but said that it was way out and would need to be adjusted again soon, which it did...after I fell 1 tree. took it back and got it adjusted. Fell 7 more trees and limbed them out and then had to go back to have it adjusted again, and again they said it would need to be done again soon, which it did. This has been an ongoing process since. I just found out a buddy of mine bought the 440 from a guy for $100. The guy said it was only used to cut a couple of cord of wood and it just wasn't for him. My friend starting telling me the problems he was having and low and behold it's the same issues I am having. Oh, and before Husqvarna replies saying it's the gas, I promise I have mixed the gas according to the manual and have only used ethanol free fuel. I'm buying a 455 Rancher.

Worked well overall
I had some problems getting the saw to start initially, but once I got it started, it performed well and restarted without any problems. It's fairly simple to operate and did not lack power. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. I gave it 4 stars vs. 5 due to the trouble getting it started initially.

Great chainsaw little hard to crank. I have only used it once, but performed well.

Impressed so far!!
I have owned this saw for 12 hours. I have a 440 with 18 inch bar. I filled it with Trufuel 50:1 and Jonsered. Bar&chain oil. Started easily with 5-6 pulls, and it was 18 degrees outside today. I bucked up some branches, the saw still seemed hungry so I fell an 8-10 inch maple, saw wasn't even challenged. I will be headed to my hunting property this weekend to really test it and will review it again based on that. I will say there is clear difference between this saw and my Poulan 38cc 16inch bar. If all Husqvarna products are built lkie this I'm a life customer.

Converted Homelite Customer
I used Homelites all my life, when it came time for a new saw the Husqvarna just out preformed and was easier to use. The bar is easier to swap, low bar oil use and chain adjustments are easier. Simple and safe to use, it's just worth the money.

Very poor product
I cut 2 cords of firewood each year. This is my second Husqvarna chain saw. It may also be my last. This model 440 is nearly impossible to start. The day I bought it (5 days ago) I was finally able to start the saw and help a neighbor clear storm debris. Today I needed to clear a fallen tree from my own yard and had to just give up trying to start the saw. I have followed the starting instructions precisely. It is fueled with clean new gas mixture. It needs a compression release valve. It is going back to Lowes tomorrow.

Cut above the rest
I just finished cutting 5 cords of wood with great ease. My main concern is that it doesn't always start easily as advertised. The instructions included with the saw were not easy to read --- thumbnail artwork is not good. I just went to a dealer and asked a few questions. The chain brake stuck on my last log --- had to have it fixed by a dealer, who told me to avoid cheap oils in mixing the fuel ---can make the engine run hot due to it evaporating too quickly from the gas. Still, I would recommend this unit.
