Jared Abrojena of Antioch, CA who represented the Western Chapter and Marilou Dussault of Ontario, Canada who represented the Quebec Chapter were the male and female winners of this inaugural event. Odis Sisk, of Gainesville, GA was the overall winner for the Southern Chapter.
This event was open to both men and women competitors that live and work within North America. A total of 69 contestants demonstrated their abilities in five preliminary events and were judged on time, safety and effectiveness to qualify as one of the top five scoring males and top three female contestants who earned the right to move on to the championship Masters Challenge round. Preliminary events included:
• Secured footlock climb
• Belayed speed climb
• Aerial rescue
• Work climb
• Throw line
Husqvarna was the lead sponsor for this inaugural event in hopes that their corporate support helps to develop the North American Tree Climbing industry. Jared Abrojena has been climbing since he was 8 years old and placed 7th in his very first competition at the age of 15. With 5 regional championships and a World Championship title now under his belt, and a win this weekend at the Husqvarna NATCC, Jared will be competing at the international tree climbing championship in Australia in July 2011.
