Give Dad An EcoSmart™ Gift this Father’s Day

The Fully Robotic Automower® Solar Hybrid from Husqvarna Lets dad enjoy more time with the family

Charlotte, NC [May 28, 2009] – When 1,000 U.S. homeowners were asked about their vision of the yard of the future, 38 percent surveyed in Husqvarna’s 2009 Garden Trend Report suggested one that is entirely self maintaining. This is proof that some dads have been dreaming of a full-time helper to replace his time tending to yard work.

The good news is the future is here now and dad could be the talk of the neighborhood this Father’s Day as the fully-robotic Automower® Solar Hybrid from Husqvarna roams his lush lawn keeping it perfectly groomed – while lessening the impact on the environment.

Incorporating solar and battery power, it uses considerably less energy than any conventional mower with its large integrated solar panel and is emissions-free, powered by the sun using no fuel or oil. When there is daylight available, the solar cells enable the mower to extend its cutting periods before requiring a recharge.

“A small wire is staked to the ground below the grass level, or buried just beneath it, around the perimeter of the lawn to be mowed,” said Gent Simmons, product manager at Husqvarna. “The on-board navigation system monitors its position relative to the wire keeping it in the area to be mowed. The irregular pattern of movement, the long battery life, and its ground speed enables it to effectively mow all parts of the lawn,” he added.

The Solar Hybrid mower is programmable to be personalized via timer, and charges itself when required by returning to its base. It is designed to handle lawns of just over a half acre. The mower cuts every day, day or night, rain or shine and has a 4-digit pin code lock feature required to operate the mower and an alarm for security. Other safety features include lightweight and out-of-reach blades and automatic shut off when the device is lifted from the ground. Additionally, the three razor-like blades cut the grass cleanly and more often than a traditional mower and leaves shorter clippings that decompose faster and provide a natural fertilizer for an even better-looking yard.

“We have found that technology, innovation and EcoSmart solutions are of keen interest to many Americans,” said Dave Zerfoss, president of Husqvarna Professional Products, Inc. “EcoSmart solutions are a core part of our product development - - transforming how people spend time working in and enjoying their yards.”
