HUSQVARNA 550 XP®
Like the 346xp better
I have had two 346xp saws over the years and that was a saw that was perfect for gound us. Light, comfortable, and powerful. I believe this saw is too other then I feel they have cheapened it up. I hate the caps for the gas and oil. These will not last one day out in the field. You can put stuff like this on homeowner saws but when it comes to professional saws, we need stuff that last and can be used over and over. These quarter turn caps brake constanly. It would be nice if they would us the old style on this saw like the 346xp had. I believe in time this saw will be just as good if not better then the 346xp.

great saw poor snow guard design
Love this saw its got great power, light and starts a lot better then the older husqvarna saws. The auto tune works good other then the rich spot right off idle. Husqvarna really dropped the ball when they designed the snow guard for the recoil cover. How come I have to drill holes threw the recoil cover and the decal of a brand new saw to install? They should have just included a 4" strip of duct tape cause thats what I'm using.

My number one saw!
I own 3 husqvarna xp saws and 3 profesional stihl saws. This has become my number one all time favorite saw! light weight for the power and handles extremely well. Tipping this saw from side to side to limb a tree takes far less energy than my other saws. I use a 20" bar and use this saw for anything under 16" (solid oak) and for cutting all of my notches and back cuts where a 20" bar is long enough. I also take this saw into the tree once my 14" top handle is too small. The controls are the most convenient I have ever used. The only "problem" is learning to start the saw. Anyone i let use the saw has problems starting it. This however is user error. It starts great cold or hot once you know where to keep the controls. I hope Husqvarna never stops making this saw!

Worse saw I have ever bought
I have worked in the woods for my whole working life and this is the worst saw I have ever bought! It has been in the shop being fixed for 3 1/2 months out of the 4 months I have owned it! The following things have been fixed on it, piston, ring and jug, then the carburetor, and today they are replacing the bearings! It's a good thing I have a few back up saws or I wouldn't be working. Bought these saws for years but this one is making me rethink this company and go back to Sthil.

The Husqvarna 550xp is an awesome saw
This saw is a very small, light and yet a very powerful chainsaw. It is an excellent saw for limbing and all around general use. I got one last year for my 12 birthday. This also one of those saws that you can use all day and not feel sore the next day. If you are looking for a small, light weight and powerful saw that is commercial grade I would recommend this product for you.

Could be great
This saw could be really great one day, however I feel like it was rushed to market and now some of us are having to pay the price, and on a pro saw that you should be able to depend on, this is unacceptable.
The saw looks and feels great with good balance characteristics but it can't make up for the problem areas.
The saw I received out of the box would not oil, so after waiting 3 weeks on a stripped oiler gear, I finally was able to get to work. This issue should have been caught in QA and should have prompted action on the company's part. Were it me, I would have issued an apology and sent a gift box or something to my customer, instead, I was met at every turn with people who only seemed intent on protecting the company rather than being an advocate for my issues. In fact, this saw would not (and still will not) stay running at idle until it is hot. I was told that it was supposed to run like this. Really? A pro saw will not stay running until it is hot? Laughable. My Stihl 441CM exhibits none of these issues.
After several minutes of pressing bulbs, switching switches, furiously yanking the cord, babying the saw off idle and profuse swearing you can get to work, where quite often the saw will lay down on you and die mid cut.
I use ONLY fresh, Premium, ethanol free gas in all of my engines mixed with XP oil so I really do not wish to hear this nonsense again from another rude company rep.
In the end, after MANY calls to local and corporate reps, I am defeated by this corporate giant, stuck without recluse with a saw that I truly wish would start and run reliably. I really like the feel of the saw and don't want to seem bitter, but its precisely because I am so frustrated with the lost potential that this saw has.
While I could just go buy another Stihl, I would honestly rather Husqvarna just swap my saw for one that works reliably. I don't feel this is unreasonable, but then with corporate profit and shareholder returns more important than a happy customer these days, I, like many others it seems, will have to hang our heads, pound sand, and live with regret on this purchase.
Too bad, this saw could have been really great.

I purchased this saw as a backup to my 372XP but it may become my main saw! I fell a very large maple tree, the trunk was over 12 feet high and over 30 inches in diameter. After cutting for a full day just to trim the limbs and branches, several of which were over 20" in diameter we started on the trunk. Although not as powerful as the 372 the 550 is definitely under rated, it cut the branches with ease and easily halved the large rounds from the trunk. The rev boost and light weight make this an ideal saw!

Great powerful chainsaw
I bought this saw to replace as the workhorse a Poulan Pro 18" saw I have had for 12 years. It served me well but started to have some issues. So I do my research and narrowed my choice to a Stihl or Husky. So after reading more and just liking the Husky a bit better I chose the 550XP with a 20" bar. I bought this saw from a mom & pop outfit that has been in business when I was in high school. Now that was back in the 80's so they have to be doing something right plus they go over the product with you in detail so you know how to use it. So I get this bad boy home and immediately flood it because I mucked up one of the steps as told by the owner on how to start the saw easily. So after getting it un-flooded if that is a word I was off to the races cutting hickory and some oaks. Now I am here to say this saw using the pre-mix fuel by Husky runs and sounds like a Formula One race car. This saw revs high and cuts like the old saying goes......a hot knife through butter! This saw is a wroker and cuts until your tired! Pricey..........you betcha! Worth it????? You betcha! Things you must go by if you get this unit is to go by the starting instructions precisely. If you do and learn the sequence you are in business for sure. I highly suggest using the pre-mix with no ethanol content. Just makes a big difference. If you are more than the casual cutter then this saw is for you. I find having 21 acres this saw to be a necessity. Overall as far as durability..........too soon to tell since I have had this only a few months roughly. But it has cut some trees in that time. If I get 12 years like my last saw I will consider it a win!
