HUSQVARNA 460 Rancher
I have both a Stihl MS 660 and the husky 460 Rancher. the Husky starts easier, is easier to handle and uses less fuel. I have worked my husky hard and it never fails to deliver what is needed

Potent and tough saw
I've had my Husky 460 for over four years now and it has always been dependable. Cuts quickly through any type of wood. I burn wood for my main source of heat during Wisconsin's long winters, so I cut a lot of firewood. Upon felling a large pine tree earlier this year, the hinge of the tree broke unexpectedly and the tree took a slight twist from its desired felling direction and the end landed on the handle of the 460 and broke it, then rolled onto the 24" bar and bent it badly. I ordered a new handle from my local Husky dealer and had it within a week, then I installed it and a 20" bar and chain, and I was back in business. The saw looks like new again and still runs like new. Husqvarna builds a tough saw!

8 cords so far
I've cut about 8 cords so far. The saw handles well, and has sufficient power on the aspens and pines I've cut. I HIGHLY recommend having your local Husqvarna shop tune the saw if you're in high elevations. My favorite wood cutting spot is at around 9,000 feet. The saw took forever to start at that elevation. So, I asked the pro's at my local shop and they informed me the saw is tuned for sea-level out of the box. So, they tuned it up and now it will start within 4-5 pulls cold. Once warmed up, it will start first pull.

This is an awesome saw, especially for the cost. It always starts easily and performs well. It's the saw to bring out for the big jobs. Maintenance is easy and cheap; I machine sharpen my chains at home. If I had to complain about anything it would be fuel consumption. It seems awfully thirsty but then again, it doesn't have a very large tank for it's size. I like the 20" bar. It seems better balanced and cuts faster than the long bars.

2nd one is a charm
First one I bought would not start at all. Returned for exchange and the second one runs like a scolded dog!!! Buried the 24" bar in a 45" sinker cypress and never looked back. One very nice saw! Oh, it has the lowest vibration of all my 9 chainsaws. I have 7 Stihl's and 2 Husqvarna's and will never but Stihl again.

Saw starts easily, out performs every other saw I own.I will not buy another brand from now on . We had wind storms that put 21 trees on the ground. My other saws were not big enough or powerful enough to cut the large oaks and maples. Highly recommend this saw for any land owner that has large amount of cutting to do or uses wood for heat.

A beast for $500!
So i have an Echo CS-400 and it served me very well over the years but i wanted to try a bigger saw and webt to Lowes and bought a 450 Rancher; what a junk! The oiler didnt put out any oil for few minutes out of the box, the chain overheated and now it's almost impossible to restart the saw without starting fluid when its warm..
So i decided to try even bigger saw and went to Lowes again and got the last 460 Rancher with a 24" bar.. Who wants a 18 or 20" bar when this one has a 24"!
It starts every time, hot or cold, even without decomp., cuts very well, has lots of power, just a great saw for big drees and big jobs.
Gas guzzler, muffler pointed forward so wear ear plugs because the exhaust bounces pff of the tree when you cut, cant find oiler adjustment to increase bar oil and the chain is only Special Order!!! Send more 24" chains to Lowes!!!
So thats it, big saw for big jobs and it's definitely worth $500.

Very short chain life
Even the saw works, the chains three of them one after the other with 10-12 14" cuts are rendered useless ( They are Husqvarna brand) I try to sharpen them with no result. I had Stihls and Oregon smaller and cheaper in the past, and I thought I was step in up to the 460, but somehow i feel something is wrong. The chains should not be dull in 10 cuts. There is no communication to the Manufacturer for support and advise.
