Priced well but underpowered.
I purchased this saw for regular firewood cutting. Assembly was a breeze, I filled the fuel and oil tanks and it started on the second pull. Compression release is great and you need less pumps on the primer then the manual states. Fit and finish of the parts is nice and the controls are well laid out.
As far as performance goes this saw is under powered as far as I am concerned. Cutting 20" logs is achievable but you cant really dig in with the cleat. I used a 372XP and wish I would have spent the extra $ and got the pro saw.

Husqvarna 460 Rancher
I bought my 460 about 2 years ago. Like some others it leaked oil badly. Took it back to the local Husqvarna dealer here in Hobart, TAS and they kept it for a while and said it was fixed. Still leaked oil. Took it back again and they said there had been a recall on oil hose, said they would replace. Still leaked oil!! In frustration took it to my neighbour (retired mechanic - can fix any motor) stripped it down (as much as possible - sealed motor compartment) and placed some sealer around the mouth of the oil hose. It has hardly leaked a drop since. It was plain to see that the saw had not been touched by the service dealer. To sum up the 460 is a joy to use - powerful, light and starts first time.

It leaked oil from the day I put oil in the reservoir. Loew's sent it out under warranty and it came back just like it was. Plus they wanted to charge me $48 for handling. It took a call to Husky to get that straightened out. The second time I found my own Husky service center and the guy didn't want to work on it. After several calls to the service center we found a shop within reasonable distance to work on it. I bought this in September, it is now May and I have nothing to show for $500. I definitely did something wrong, either Husky or Lowes. I did find out that it may not even be built by Husqvarna.

The decompression valve flew out of the cylinder. The threads on the cylinder are striped. This occurred less than 26 months after purchase. This is not covered due to the fact that the warranty is 24 months.

Good saw but ...
I would recommend this saw but the chain oiler leaks when the saw is off. The saw was checked at a certified service dealer and I was told by the technician that there is no check valve in the oil tube and so the saw will leak. This is a design issue. The throttle linkage broke 5 minutes out of the box . This was easily fixed by the local service dealer but it makes one wonder about the assembly and inspection process used by Husvarna.

I bought the 460 rancher for cutting firewood. It can tackle any firewood job. First job I used it I was sawing 20 inch oak and it did very well. Very easy to start warm or cold. The saw is light enough to carry all day.

Long time Husqvarna owner
Day four with the Husqvarna 460r . My husqvarna 45 did most of the work this trip out . There was still some stump work for the 460r , and it performed well . As you see there is no broken plastic or missing parts . Not much to report about this trip out so I’ll leave it at working good , and running great .
Day three with the Husqvarna 460r . This big White Oak Splintered and fell into a Large Red Oak . It was tricky , but we saved the big Red Oak from further damage . The rest of the job was up to the 460 . The 60cc Husqvarna made short work of this branch . as you know the splintered end can also be tricky . No problem for this 9,000 rpm saw . I kept the rpm’s up , and no flying pieces . Still as you can see no broken plastic parts . It looks like my 1994 Husqvarna 45 might be finished at the repair shop . Next week should be awesome with both saw’s . i’ll keep you all posted .
Day two with the Husqvarna 460r . This Oak is much fresher ,and greener . So far no problems on the 22” dry or green oak . As you see the plastic is still intact ( unbroken ) . Low vibration you better believe it . Good fuel economy , yep better than expected . Oh yea plenty of power I’m trying to find something wrong . The choke , primer button , chain , throttle , chain brake no none of these . Oh yea the kill switch ( stop switch ) . I found the switch in the stop position a couple times I know I lifted it . I’m sure it’s to long and can be easily bumped down . I’m now aware of it , and a little more careful
Day one with the Husqvarna 460r . This is a great saw . I made the right choice . The 460r has plenty of power . I had no stalling or stopping even on this very dry oak . This dry oak is the true test for saw and chain . Both passed the day one test for me . Oh yea not a gas guzzler by any means
