HUSQVARNA 460 Rancher
What a workhorse!
I am coming from the consumer chain saws and needed a more powerful saw. Our Mcculloch 380 is also a good one for smaller jobs, but when it comes to more demanding job that saw is at its limits - not so strange, this is the saw is made for.
To this 460 Rancher:
The very first impression when it comes out of the box is impressive. It got the 24 inch bar completely assembled version.
First handling is very good, the saw is heavy, but not too bad. Its well balanced. When you hold it at the upper handle it stays horizontal.
The saw body is solid with being too wide. Its a nice and slim saw, but it still has its price due to the motor of 60 cc.
The quick cover remover are no longer in place on this 2014 model. They have been replaced with 4 screws instead - previosly there was the quick replease snappers. not a disavantage.
The clutch cover is made in Sweden and made in MG to save weight. When you remove the cover you find a big steel plate to hold the bar with the clutch over on the other - The McCulloch has just a tiny plate here. The Rancher is much more solid.
The upper handle is held in grey color and tilted. Makes its really easier to hold. Its made in plastic, but solid made.
Underneath the upper handle is the cylinder value to ease starting. Helps really since the engine displacement is not small.
The bar librification is no longer automatic on the 2014 Rancher, its manual. The oiler is accessible from underneath. Symbols explanin very simple how to increase and how to decrease the oil flow. Generally more oil is needed on larger bars, less on smaller.
The manual bar oiler is of advantage when you change between different bar length. It gives the fleibility to adjust the flow accoring to the bar.
The 24 inch bar is huge. This bar is no longer a tiny consumer bar, its very solid. It takes 84 link chain.
First tests show that this saw cuts wood like with butter. What a difference to the McCulloch.
The saw is about 100 bucks more expensive as we 455, but its worth the money when you go for the 24 inch bar.
Did not regret to extended my saws with this one!

No nonsense workhorse.
Bought this saw to cut firewood here in France. Debated long and hard on the old chestnut Stihl or Husqvarna issue but then chose Husky for 3 reasons. (1) I have (or rather my ex.wife has) and still uses a Husky I bought about 30 years ago-it's only ever been serviced once and still starts 2nd or 3rd pull and cuts well. (2) I used to work in a sawmill using only stihl saws and I remember the problems I had with them.(3) There are at least 4 Husky dealers within about 15 miles of where I live.
I do not regret the choice at all. Put the bar and chain on, fuel and oil in, started it on 3rd pull and put it straight to work. No problems whatsoever. 24 inch bar and ripped through 20 inch oak which had been down at least 2 years. IMPRESSED!!!!! Have since bought 18 inch bar and chain for smaller jobs. Looking forward to tackling some big trees soon.

Works great love this saw
This saw is great it cuts great starts easy never had a problem with it you can use it all day with out a problem and is great if you are going to cut down big trees
It's a little heaven but it's a big saw so it's understandable and has great power and with a perfectly sharp chain it will cut through nut like butter

WILL NOT OIL ! !
I bought this saw on it's reputation. Kill switch broke right away. Took back and fixed under warranty. Broke again in a week. Now, I choke to stop. Absolutely WILL NOT OIL ! ! I have replaced the plastic oil pump drive gear at least a couple of times. Last time I ordered two gears. figured I'd need them. I did. I carry a squeeze bottle to oil the chain. Dealer went out of business, so no warranty. Chain gets hot and then won't spin and won't cut. Out comes the squeeze bottle. Fill the gas, check the oil, . .still full from last time. Seems like a good saw, but hasn't been good for me. I'd like to sell it and get one that works. Like the chain tightener screw. That's cool. Why don't others do that ? Like the compression release too.

I bought the 460 Rancher for firewood cutting and clearing of trees on my property in North Idaho. It has lived up to all my expectations. It was also priced lower than a comparable saw from the competition. Keep up the good work Husqvarna.

great ranch saw
I bought this saw 3 months ago I've used it just about everyday since then, with a 24'' bar it's got power to spare, I have always used Stihl so this is a little slower then I am used to, but it has a LOT of torque, it's had problems idling no matter how much I tweaked it lately it's doing ok when first received it would die after 5 minutes regardless how high the idling was set, but I'm guessing that was just a new engine, other than that a suburb saw.

Excellent Saw for around the Farm
Been a Stihl Guy in the past. Decided to just try something different. Excellent choice in the 460 Rancher. Starts consistently on the 2nd pull and to date have had NO issues what so ever with it. I am more than pleased with my choice.
Local Dealer is great as well!!

Bought this for cutting firewood. Great power for it not being a professional saw. Big enough to cut trees over 30 inches. Most of which was tamarack and red fir.
