The polished concrete industry has grown in popularity over the last several years. The Polished Concrete Awards were created to recognize the achievement of today’s polishing contractors worldwide. The contest is centered on design innovation, construction, materials used and environmental considerations of polished concrete surfaces.

The Verve Suites is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The general contractor, Polished Concrete SDN. BHD, used the Husqvarna PG 680 and hand tools to create a Husqvarna HiPERFLOOR®, which exposed the natural beauty of the concrete surfaces. The team used HiPERFLOOR® on different surfaces that normally are not used with this application, such as benches, tables and sinks. Through patience and craftsmanship they were able to achieve the perfect polished concrete finish.

The Craftsman category was one of eight project categories, which also included, Commercial, Countertops, Educational, Industrial, Institutional, Residential and Retail. The Craftsman category highlighted decorative showcase projects. The entries were presented to a panel of judges, which selected one overall winner from each category.

There were two ways to choose the winner of the Readers’ Choice Award. Voters could submit ballots online at Concrete Surfaces magazine’s website or voters could ‘pin’ his/her favorite project on Pinterest. The Verve Suites won this award, with more than 1,500 votes.

Winners were announced early September on Concrete Surfaces’ website and Facebook page. The overall category winners are featured in Concrete Surfaces magazine as well as during the International Concrete Polishing and Staining Conference (ICSPSC), in Atlanta, Ga.
